Well, would you vote for someone with no experience in academia?
Lets say they had thrity years of small business ownership experience. Lets say that they could relate to what it was like to pay taxes, own equipment, put kids through college, go through a divorce maybe, deal with attorneys, accountants, all the costs associated with small business and prevail. Not one ounce of college, but plenty of real world smarts. Would you vote for them?
Consider that they have a staff too, full of Ba's, maybe an MA and a J.D. in the mix. But the candidate just has 30 years of working their tail off, knowing what it is like to pay bills, hit thumbs with a hammer and have muddy boots. Aye or Nay?
I would consider the candidate's experience a plus. However, I would also like to know his positions on issues, etc. Having a college degree doesn't make you smart, just educated. Is this a rhetorical question or did you have somebody in mind?

I too would have to consider the individuals stance on various issues. Education is a fine tool but I have known too many "Educated Idiots" in my life to just accept ones acedemic background as an auotomatic qualifier.
Real world smarts with a degree from the School of Hard Knocks goes far further with me than any sheepskin . If goobermint were run more like a business than some kind of charitable institution we'd all be better off .

30 years experience is far more important than a college degree, in my mind. I wouldn't even consider whether someone had a college degree, to be honest with you. IMHO, college degrees are way overblown.

I would definitely vote for him/her provided we agree on the most important issues. I think a college education is a plus for anyone, but I never finished college and still learned more on my own than I ever did in a classroom. To me a degree is a piece of paper to get myself into the door somewhere. It is not a badge of superior intellect or experience.
I wonder if a person with no college degree can rise within the political establishment? If you are talking about a candidate for US representative or US senator, you have to be aligned with either the democrats or republicans to get campaign money and get on the ticket. Do they advance non-degreed people? I don't know. If you are talking about a candidate at the state level, the same considerations come into play, but may be less of an issue if you are a successful, powerful businessman. If you are a successful small business owner, I would ask how you are going to persuade the power elite to sponsor you with campaign money and/or a position on the ticket?
Otherwise, I'm not sure a college degree would have much influence on the election. I would expect a degree to be less important in back country states such as Alaska, Montana, Wyoming and more important in highly urbanized states such as California, New York, and Massachusetts.
It might be different in New Hampshire. As I understand it, members of government in New Hampshire are paid very modestly and so you don't have so many shisters manoeuvring to grab plum elective jobs -- people are more drawn based on a sense of duty than on self-interest. So I imagine: maybe I'm full of crap.
Having a college degree doesn't make you smart, just educated.
It doesnt even mean they are educated. it means they spent the time in a school and completed the requirements for a piece of paper saying they met the requirements to get the paper from that school.
The world has placed to much on a piece of paper. not saying it's bad because i have spent my time in a school and have a school given document but as for everyone that has a paper being "educated" nope!
I know folks with degrees stocking shelves at wally world.it opens doors.
Absolutely if the individual is qualified.
Going to college is a very limited part of ones life. If they consider it as a major accomplishment they're in big trouble. I had many people with degrees and/or multiple degrees work for me over the years. I never held it agianst them and always gave them a chance to learn in the real world. Some were outstanding and the others could not think on thier own. There were others between the extremes.
People gain their experience and expertise in many ways. To use a degree as the golden yard stick is very narrow minded and restrictive.

RE: Vote for Congressman With No College Degree?
Id have to consider all variables.
You could consider the converse; Would you vote for someone with a PhD that never had real world experience. A person who lived and worked all their live in a liberal college setting?
