Liberty and Freedom

Liberty and Freedom, when was the last time you heard a politician utter those two words in the same sentence, the same paragraph, the same speech or even in his lifetime? These are concepts which, although our constitution and nation were founded on them, have become anathema to the average politician and seemingly to the average citizen. Why?
Whether it is the Liberty to do as you wish on or with your own property or the Freedom to Keep and Bear Arms, it seems some politician or group opposes it if for no other reason than they are afraid of something and feel the need for the government to protect them. What ever happened to the American spirit of taking care of ones self and family without government interference and "help" I am becoming disgusted with most people that would accept this type of interference in their lives and their constant whining for ever more government.
The politicians fall right in there for this knowing full weel that promising these people more and more guarantees another term in office because the laws they pass nearly guarantee a voter base that will re-elect them. Again, I am disgusted.

Many politicians avoid mentioning the concepts of Liberty and Freedom because it tends to take themselves out of the picture. The more Americans live and work for and by themselves, the less government is needed.

Too many people are willing to compromise both tenets of our country in the name of peace and security. The founders knew it would happen without proper corrective action, and they were right on the money. What most people don't realize is that everything comes at a cost. Yes, maybe some of these liberal welfare states in Europe provide lifetime medical and unemployment benefits, but they also pay nearly twice as much in taxes as we do. And let's not forget to mention all of the government over-regulation of personal life and business.

I don't know exactly what is causing more people to abandon the American Dream in favor of government babysitting, but it's becoming a bigger and bigger problem on a yearly basis. I suppose the endless stream of politicians promising the world has gotten some people to actually believe the hype. The term 'leper messiah' comes into mind when I think about some of these so-called leaders.
