Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default My Parents don't vote

Went elk hunting with my Dad this past week in Colorado I talked to him for 24 hours (the drive back) about voting. He said his votes don't matter, won't make a difference and is afraid he'll vote for the wrong candidate. He doesn't want to committ to learning about the candidates policies and where they stand either. Like many people, gas prices, SS and the war in Iraq dominate thier thinking - and my parents as well. Abortion, military records, economic views, ties to anti-gun and animal rights groups plays little part in supporting one candidate or another. In fact, like most people, they don't know those ties and views even exist. My Mom even went so far as to say she believes Democrats are for the poor, Republicans are for the rich.

Sad aint it ? In todays world, you can give me a question on something I have no idea about and in less than 30 minutes I can drag up tons of information about it using computers and the internet. Yet Joe American doesn't have the time to do that, and Joe American, like my parents, are Conservative minded folks whose votes are needed IMO.

It's not surprising that there are many people who feel that way.

The seniors are worried about how they are going to pay for their medical expenses and prescriptions, and if they own their homes how they are going to pay the ever rising property taxes on their fixed incomes.

The working poor are worried about how they are going to put food on the table and clothes on their kids' backs. They try not to think about what will happen if they need medical care because most of them don't have health insurance.

Or the guy who worked in the mill for 35 years and was just 'let go' and now has to start at the bottom in a slave wage job at a point in his life when he should be able to retire and enjoy life a little.

Too many people in this country are too busy just trying to survive to worry about anything else. And isn't that a shame?

Our country needs to stop bailing out everybody else and start working on our problems because they aren't just going to magically disappear.

As I posted before, complacency will be our downfall!

This is the exact reason why the founders created the Electoral College. The average American is to stupid to vote, much less pick the right guy. Every time I hear someone talking about how they don"™t vote, it points out to me their hypocrisy. Yes, we all seem to worry about different things depending upon our physical location and our economic stature, but we must ALL vote, or change will never occur.

Anyone who can vote and chooses not to is a hypocrite. Why is America so hated in the world? It isn"™t because of what we have; it"™s because of our hypocrisy. We all whine and complain, and then when the time comes, we do nothing but more complaining.

To those who CHOOSE not to vote, the Unites States of America was not formed by whiners but by doers.

Contrary to your blanket assertion, not everyone who doesn't vote complains about government. Some people live in their own world and don't care about politics or much else.

Hypocrite is a strong label, especially if it's untrue. I don't expect the next guy to care anymore about politics than they do hunting. We're all citizens, vote or no vote.

I think it's foolish to maintain a "holier than thou" attitute simply because you vote. As long as the apathetic ones stay out of my way, let them be who they are.

Ha?

America is hated because we are a Christian nation. Period. Why do you think we can have things such as the Constitution?

Sure, we all complain about this or that, especially what big government is or isn't doing. It's part of our right as Americans. Just as it's part of our right as Americans to vote, or not to vote.

I think AS put it best:

You want change? It may not be the kind of change you want.

I have never been one who cared whether or not people vote. In fact, I'd rather the most complacent among us not vote. People who are so detached from current political events that they won't go to the polls once every two years look at politics in such a simplistic way I think we'd be in big trouble if they did vote. For example, polls show that a majority of Americans favor the ban on semi-auto firearms. That's because they know nothing about the issue. They are lead by the nose like lemmings off a cliff. You want them voting? Not me.

They have the right not to vote and for most of them, I appreciate their exercising that right.

Sometimes, it's better that people don't vote. Whether you like ot or not, if your father isn't willing to invest a little time and learn about the candidates and issues, he probably shouldn't be voting. It is sad that people choose to ignore this basic citizen responsibility but it is also a reality we live with.
