Millions of Americans are outraged by CBS News and Dan Rather for their obstinance in admitting they used forged documents to indict the military record of George W. Bush.
In an online survey completed this week, and with more than 100,000 respondents, NewsMax readers overwhelming believe that Dan Rather should resign as anchor for the CBS Evening News.
Mr. Rather's position may have been further weakened when:
a) it was revealed that CBS purposefully withheld from their
'60 Minutes' program forensic experts who said the documents were fraudulent;
b) after it was clear the documents were found to be fraudulent, Rather and Company continued to argue their story was essentially accurate; and
c) one witness, a fellow guardsman during Bush's time in service, was not allowed to appear on the CBS program because he was "too pro Bush."
But the NewsMax poll results show that the American people have not been fooled by CBS. The Tiffany Network's credibility may be completely lost -- unless Dan Rather accepts responsibility and resigns.
Here are the NewsMax Poll Results:
1) Do you believe CBS and Dan Rather used forged documents to make allegations about George Bush's National Guard service?
Yes - 98.27%
No - 1.73%
2) Do you agree with Dan Rather that his story questioning George Bush's service is still true?
Agree - 2.62%
Disagree - 97.38%
3) Should Dan Rather resign over the CBS story that used these questionable documents?
Yes - 94.05%
No - 5.95%
4) Who do you believe most about their account of their military record?
Bush - 87.74%
Kerry - 1.39%
Both - 4.35%
Neither - 6.52%

If the head of the CIA didn't resign for giving Bush the false reports about WMD that launched the war in Iraq, then I don't think Dan Rather should resign for what he did.
The head of the CIA didn't resign, did he?[8D]

Well Kerry has hired some ex Clintonistas on his staff notably Joe Lockhart . Seems Joe had some communication with this guy from Texas that fabricated the story in the first place. Joe being a good Clintonista denies anything was said. One other question if Rather does resign can he take Katie Couric under one arm and Matt Lauer under the other and go wherever he decides to retire to hopefully FRance?[link]http://usatoday.printthis.clickability.com/pt/cpt?action=cpt&title=USATODAY.com+-+CBS+arranged+for+meeting+with+Lockhart&expire=&ur lID=11703685&fb=Y&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.usatoday.co m%2Fnews%2Fpoliticselections%2Fnation%2Fpresident% 2F2004-09-20-cbs-documents_x.htm&partnerID=1660[/link]

Dan Rather has been twisting the truth for his 60 minutes shows for as long as I can remember. I was involved with a 60 minutes show shot in columbia, tenn. back around 1979, can't remember the exact date. It was about a proposed dam to be built and he came in and interviewed bunches of people until he finally found two that were against the dam and he put those two on tv. All other interview's were for the dam, including me.
I don't care whether Dan Rather resigns or not -- it is immaterial. "Let those who have eyes see and let those who have ears hear." Apology or not, resignation or not, the case is made that CBS -- if not all the mainstream media -- is a shill for the Democratic party. Balanced, unbiased "reporting"? Total BS.
Where I want to see this go from here is . . . what was the involvement of the Kerry campaign in this? What did they know, and when did they know it?
Relative to the Director of the CIA misleading Bush on WMD, someone posted a long post -- perhaps here or elsewhere -- showing statements by Bill Clinton, Madaleine Albright (Clinton's secretary of state), Sandy Berger (Clinton's national security advisor), Hillary Clinton, and others stating that Saddam Hussein had WMD and we needed to do something about it. It seems like many, many people were fooled, misled, mistaken, what have you about the WMD. It is partisan gun slinging to lay this at the feet of the CIA director and suppose that others are not stained by this mistake. Dan Rather's position is substantially less justifiable.
