Default Attempted Murder or Bad Prank

Ok folks have a little story for you tell me what you think bad prank or attempted murder.

Myself and 3 other guys have a high fenced ranch here in Texas. This evening I was riding the trails on the 4 wheeler just looking around and checking food plots ect. I was riding down one of our roads at no more than 15 mph I was in a wooded area of the road and at the last second I caught a glimpse of something that appeared to be a spider web in front of me hanging acorss the road, at about 5 feet from it I put my hand up to keep it out of my face. At the last second I realize it was not a spider web but a piece of wire from the electric fence tied across the trail from tree to tree at head height for some one on a 4 wheeler. I locked up the breaks and skidded into it with my hand up in front of me to block my face and neck. Although I got my arm up it still knocked me off the 4 wheeler. No injury fortuanately but just a little shaken up. If your familiar with hot wire fence it would with out a doubt take your head off clean if you ran into it with any speed. This happened about a hour before dark tonight and If I had been riding through there not more than a half hour later at dusk there is no way I would of seen the wire. We called the sheriff to report it and their reply was that there is nothing they could do about it unless we saw them putting it up. Maybe I am over reacting but I look at that stunt as attempted murder. Needless to say the person who did this better prey to god I never find out who it is that strung that wire.

Thats more than a bad prank.. I would consider it attempted murder, if you hadn't been paying attention you could have easily been killed. Thank God you weren't.

I say it's time to put up some tree cameras and look for the people/ person. Could be a very poorly thought out prank, or it could be anti-hunters. I don't think you should blow it off by any means.

Put out cameras and see what you can find out. Definately get the word out to others in the area. That's not a prank, and you are right--it would have taken your head clean off if you had been going at any speed. Even at a slow speed, it would either cut your throat and/or crush your esophogus. Could have been anti's, could have been competition, could have been someone ticked off because you got something they haven't, could have been a stupid kid, could have been a lot of things--but it was attempted murder, and the local law should have a big stink raised until they got off their butts and did something. End results wouldn't be any different if they'd set out a claymore mine and a tripwire.

A couple of years ago near here someone put a cable across a road to their property. A young kid on a 4-wheeler was decapitated by it.

I would take the wire down on one end when I could keep a close eye on it, then see if someone comes by to check it. My property has a sign on the gate stating, "IF YOU ARE FOUND HERE TONIGHT, YOU WILL BE FOUND HERE TOMORROW NIGHT!"

That really bugs me, what the police did just shrugging it off. Go back to them and ask what kind of work they would have done if it had killed you. I am sure they could have started some sort of investigation, but just because you were ok they just said "theres nothing that we can do if you didnt see them do it." Well if I was out in the woods and shot someone with no witness dam right they wouldnt tell the deceased family that there is nothing that we can do if you didnt see the person that did it. They would start to investigate and maybe track me down.

Not that I would ever even think about doing anything close to that but I am just trying to make my point.

Hope you catch them

I think it's more than a prank. Some states have laws regarding boobytraps. I don't know if this applies in Texas or not. I like the idea of a trail camera. Might help you figure out who to watch. Until you get this figured out, I wouldn't ride at dusk or in the dark.

You say it's a high fenced trac? Who would have access to it other than your people? I would look there first but quitly so as to not alert them you are on to them. If you go the camera route don't tell anyone.
