What do you think? I heard a story on the news today about a few families in CT that are going through this now - they are refusing to sell to the city so their land can be converted into new condos. This will accomplish two things for the city - drive up the tax base for the property, and make the area much nicer, attracting future growth and more taxes. What's wrong with booting a few dozen people out on their ears to make way for bigger and better things in the name of macro-beneficial growth and prosperity? Constitutional or Socialism? Depends on how it's done?

Hell no it`s as unamerican as you can get. And by the way they just had a vote in Harwinton CT. about taking a guys land to build a municipal airport. It was a small private airport that he closed down because the pilots didn`t want pay a rent increase. By the way it was voted down by about a 80%-20% desicion.

It's socialism plain and simple. This country was built by private individuals, not government bodies. The government answers to the people, not the other way around. Property redistribution is akin to wealth redistribution. Why would anyone go out and strive to be the best if they expected the government to come and take it from them? It's absurd, and it stands against Liberty.
bob it happened not to very long ago here in kent county when they expanded the gerald ford airport. the city bought up all the land needed to expand the airport then sold it to the airport for a huge profit,, if im not mistaken the original owners sued the city over it and i think its still in the courts

RE: Eminent Domain.... Is it right?
When it's used in its proper context, it serves a purpose. Putting in fireponds and demanding access, widening a curve to make a dangerous intersection safer, taking roadfront property for sidewalks to ensure safety on busy streets, taking some riverfront property to construct ACE designed breeches, etc...well, yeah, I think its OK as long as its done on a cas-by-case basis with minimized effects and property "damage".
However, blatantly land-grubbing and then offing to the highest bidder in the name of "public good"...well, is that even really eminent domain?

Right or wrong, did you know this? Senate document #43 says "The ultimate ownership of all property is in the State; individual so-called "ownership" is only by virtue of government, i.e., law, amounting to mere user; and use must be in accordance with law and subordinate to the necessities of the state."
Kind of scary I think.

Is it right? no it isnt . Kenton that law you are talking about is it supposed to be a United States law or the law where you live , give me a link to the law you are talking about , something isnt kosher on it.
When its done only to collect money for the city/state, then I probably wouldn't agree with it. A few years ago, some people lost some of their front yard, so that the township could widen a road. I think in cases like that, its ok.
That law Kenton stated is scary I'd like to see more about it, that's the kind of thing we can pressure our Senators to dissolve. THat very law goes against the Constitution, I forget which amendment but the Goobermint has to give you fair market value if they take your property under most situations.
