Is this true? Does anybody have the details of this bill? And has it been passed or is it still in the process?
I got a sketchy bit of info from a coworker, but up until that I hadn't heard anything...perhaps I should watch the news more often!

RE: Bush Denying Overtime to Millions of Workers...
Don't quote me, but I think the proposal is to provide the opportunity for workers, at their option not the companies, to take comp time in lieu of receiving time and a half pay for overtime. I would assume the time off, to make it equitable, would be 1.5 hours off for each hour of overtime. You'll have to do a search to get the facts. I don't believe what's being reported by the unions and the Democrats are the "FACTS", but rather what they want workers and the public to hear.
Everytime I've heard the President speak, he has talked about providing workers with the opportunity to choose to take comp time off for overtime rather than be paid for the overtime.

As long as it is the employee's choice and not the company's it would be ok...I would hate to see companies given another way to legally screw their employees.
I know a lot of people who depend on their OT hours...

The reason that some are screaming that its not fair is that when you choose pay you are taxed at a higher rate but when you choose comp time you dont pay additional taxes. Let's think real hard about who might not like that situation.
I was able to choose at my last job and picked comp time every chance which saved me thousands in taxes and when I switched jobs I had over 4 months of time off I got paid for instead of paying a confiscatory tax rate for working overtime.
IMO as long as the choice is the workers then then no harm no foul.

It was a done deal about 10 days ago and will effect probably about 6 million employees nationwide. I may be mistaken, but I believe only management employees are effected and some of them in a positive direction. There has been a need to clarify the OT rules for a long time and it has now been done. If non-management people had been effected, the unions would have been squeeling already.
RE: Bush Denying Overtime to Millions of Workers...
If it is a bill passed into law, let's remember that a majority of the house of representatives had to vote to approve it and then a majority of the senate had to approve it, and only then did Bush sign it into law.
I'm not sure the angles on this one. One issue may be that comp time is at 100% of wage while overtime may be time and a half, 150% of wage, or double time, 200% of wage.
In the engineering community there may be a concern that they would be required to work lots of hours without any compensation.

The overtime regulations are long and complicated.
If you want to learn more about them, run a scearh and read the information.
This is nothing new. Overtime rules have been around since the late 30's. This is just updating them and if you use the demmies description or the rich, the only ones adversly effected would be the rich.
More lower paid people will benefit from this than higher paid people will suffer. An if you are in a position that has your pay regulated through binding arbitration UNIONS, it does not ewffect your contract.
Much political crap about nothing.

From my understanding is that it will deny manager possitions the possibility for overtime. If so, many low income persons will be denied overtime, like Micy D's mannagers and the like.. Dont quote me, but I think this is the situation.
