Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Montgomery Gentry Video?

Has anyone else been a bit disturbed by the depiction of the buck on top of the hood of the SUV in the new video by Montgomery Gentry? I love the song and the lyrics and what it stands for, but the depiction of tying a buck to the top of a hot hood and parading it through town doesn"™t do us any favors as hunters and sportsmen. I wish they would have thought that out a little bit more. I"™m not saying that we should not be proud of our harvest and our chosen hobby, but besides likely ruining your meat, and your paint job, it passes on a bad image of us to non hunters.

I think it was used as a reminder of the good ol days when that was completely acceptable.

It also illustrates the hypocrisy of the folks at the restaurant looking down on him as a hunter while ordering steaks.

I have seen the video and never thought much about it until now. I can see how that could hurt our sport. You know years ago that was common to see cars around town with bucks tied to the hood. I specifically remember seeing a light blue voltswagon beetle with a huge buck across the hood driving down main street when I was a kid growing up in South Carolina and no one cared back then. These days are definitely different. While I don't have that problem because I drive a truck I always make it a point to go from field to butcher without stopping anywhere just for the fact that in New Jersey where I live today there are so many antihunter groups here and them seeing a field dressed deer in my truck would only cause alot of problems for me. Years ago that was perfectly acceptable and now we have to hide every little detail that may give someone and idea that we have a deer in the car. I'm sure this wasn't a hunters idea to be this way. Wether we want to believe it or not this has changed due to anti's and we accept it. 30 years ago you would have never heard a hunter say "look at that 12 point strapped on that truck, that's just disgusting". Now I understand that you don't want blood running everywhere and the deer shot to pieces but that is just out of plain courtesy. However, if you drive an SUV or something, and tie the deer to the roof to get it home then I say go for it. It's not about parading around town for hours on end for all the world to see. It's just that you have a 200 pound animal and you need to get it home, and believe me if I shoot a 170 class buck I'm gonna stop somewhere and show some people. However, out of courtesey I usually go to one place out of town and call everyone to come over and see it rather than parade it around. Next thing you know we'll have to wear street close over our camo so people don't know where we're going.[:'(]

I take it as just the opposite. It's an in your face..stay out of my business...I'm proud as hell to be a hunter, you do your thing, I'll do mine and it did show the hypocrasy of the people of the city looking down on it and rejoicing when their steaks showed up. The whole video was politically incorrect and I loved every bit of it. I'm tired of stepping down not to offend an anti when in reverse we should stand firm and proud of being a hunter. Besides your never going to turn an anti around, we need to target the non hunting public and if Montgomery/Gentry is proud to have that buck across the hood of their SUV...so be it.....You have to look at the whole context of the video....for me, it didn't offend me, I saluted them for it.

I have to go with Rob on this. I have seen the video and I think it really hits home. The lyrics to the song are very powerful to begin with and the imagery they selected adds to it. This is becoming the biggest problem in this country. Evryone has become so concerned with being "Politicaly correct" that the basic values the song is trying to get across are lost. That is what the whole song is about. "You do your thing and I'll do mine." It is just about hunting and anti hunters. It is about society as a whole. The next thing you know the ACLU is going to be in a uproar about the scene with the drug dealer and the baseball bat.

I really don't cae if someone has a view or opinion on something different from mine. That is the basic premise of this country; but DON'T tell me that I can't express mine because you might find it offensive if I am forced by the media and the liberal left to abide by yours! Obviously this entire issue gets under my skin. If folks don't like the video, change the channel.

One last note on political correctness. It has gotten so bad lately that a 9 year old in our local school system was suspended for wearing a t-shirt with an eagle, an american flag and "God bless the USA" on it. Somebody please tell me when it became against the law to be patriotic.

Enough of my ranting and raving. I am going for coffee.

Geez Butch... you scared the hell out of me.!!

True story. What really hacks me off about it was the fact that the kid is being cared for by his grandparents (granddad is a veteran) because his Mon and Dad and Uncle are all in the military and are deployed.
