Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default the Hypocracy of Oil

Gasoline prices at the pump react almost directly when crude prices shoot upward.

Today, crude prices are falling fast - down $1.60 or more a barrel.

Do gas prices tumble in sync ? No, in fact, I doubt with Labor Day coming that they'll drop any.

For those that believe that the price of oil will fall in the same fashion as it rises, I have a bridge in New York I need to sell.
Do the math! Approximately 4 months ago the media reported that the price of crude oil had surpassed the all time high per barrel that had happened back in the late 1980s HUH?? Let me see! What was the average price of gas at the pumps during the 1980s and what was it 4 months ago. DUH!! I DON"T GET IT! It must be the new math.

The costs of refining oil and delivering it etc etc have increased - I understand this.

However, of the $ 1.75 a gallon for gas, how much of it is actually the COST of the gas itsself ? Taxes etc I would guess are $0.80 to $1.00 or more of the price of gasoline at the pump - so to raise at the pump prices when crude jumps ? it doesn't make sense, especially when it doesn't drop as quickly when crude goes down

Well, according to what you said this spring Stealthy, there is nothing that any of us can do to change it.
So why bother talking about it?

Probably the same reason you bothered to respond to a thread without typing a single meaningful or insightful word.

You reckon ?

anyone check out the oils co's stock prices ? Up , so why lower prices when most of the US is happy paying $1.75 , since it was over $2 a month ago. They are gonna get fat for as long as they can !

It's really a joke here in Florida. For the past month the state has held back part of the gas tax by 8 cents to a gallon to help us poor people ease the burden of gas prices. September 1st it ends and the television stations tonight were warning comsumers that the price will certainly jump up more than 8 cents because there is a "GAS SHORTAGE". HUH?

You guys should consider yourselves lucky to pay 1.75 a gallon.Up here in Canada we pay anywhere from 3.20 to 3.75 a gallon.
