RE: John Kerry's Latest Puppet
First off, yes Max Cleland is a decorated hero from an incident in Viet Nam in April of 68. He lost his legs and one arm a few days later when he picked up a grenade that had fallen off of somebodies web gear, possibly even his own. Regretably the grenade had been armed when it was dislodged from the web gear (should have been in a pouch) and exploded causing his wounds. Max has got a lot of mileage from those wounds and as regretable as the injuries are and were, they alone do not qualify anybody for a seat in the senate.
Since Mad Max lost his bid for re-election in 02 he has become a bitter and angry man lashing out at all around him. He lost the election due to his kow-towing to the DNC and the politics as usual attitude fostered by them, not for any other reason. The people of Georgia wanted, need, deserve and chose a man that has since proven himself to be a better Senator and representative of the people than Max had become. In his early years in the Senate, Max was such a man, but as he became more involved with party politics and the beltway ideologies his attitude and focus shifted from the needs of America and his constituents to something foreign to those concepts and was little better than a puppet. He showed that puppet like attitude when he went to Texas this week and wonders why President Bush didn't come to the gate himself. Had he gone to Texas with no agenda and without the chip on his shoulder he would undoubtedly have been greeted and feted as deserving of his position and record but that was not to be.
Bob Barr and Cynthia McKenny lost their positions in much the same way at nearly the same time and have too become embittered and loose cannons. When these people lose sight of the fact that they are in Washington at the will of and to serve the people they are useless. Too bad the voters don't turn more of them out in this manner.
