Kerry did support the AWB, but so does Bush Jr. as he already stated if it made it to his desk he would sign it.

Furthermore, The pro-gun groups black list any politican that doen not agree with them on every single piece of legislation. The are a major lobbiest group for the GOP, so it would be suicide for them to support the democrats.
