Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Congressional Targets:

Congressional Targets:
Time reports that members of Congress themselves may be in the terrorists' sights. "Two days before Ridge issued his nationwide alert, an FBI official warned a congressional leader that he and other top legislative officials could be targeted by al-Qaeda in Washington or on their trips around the country. Jane Harman, senior Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, quickly said Democratic critics of the release of the new intelligence were off base. She said everyone should "take this threat very seriously."

Anybody wondering if the dems might actually be safer than the republican MCs? It would make sense to me that any terrorist activities would be aimed at those solidly opposed to those enemies of the U.S. as opposed to the wafflers and excuse makers that seem to revel in the chaos caused by terrorist acts. Of course any terrorist act, no matter who it affected would be seen as a victory for the terrorists, I just wonder though about the targeting.

If luck is with us they may just go after a certain Senator who will remain nameless ... [:-]

Targeting members of congress would fit the terrorist MO. I honestly don't think they'd care who they murdered, as long as it was a US congressperson or senator. Would they specifically target those who stand fast against them? Possibly, but I think they'd just be "happy" to murder anyone they could.

Their biggest coup has been the world trade centers. They attacked a little bit of everything there, representatives of the whole world. While they likely will not, it would behoove those who stand in the way of the war eradicating terrorism to note they're targets also....

Actually, this makes a lot of sense. Look at how many times Senators and Congressmen go overseas on their factfinding junkets. Remember when Hillary visited the troops? What a hostage for the terrorists to grab? What would the U.S. do if one of our Senators or Congressmen were taken hostage? Makes you wonder, doesn't it? I'm sure our Secret Service, etc. have already thought about this and warned the pols about taking those kinds of bad chances but how do you forbid a member of congress from actually going into a foreign country? I sure as heck hope this doesn't happen but figure the terrs will eventually think of it.

Whitehorse, I agree with you to a degree, if they were able to take out a group of congressmen or other leaders, the party affiliations would not matter. If, however, they had the resources to track and attack individual members would it not make more sense for them to go after those that were outspoken against them on a daily basis? After the WTC, the most spectacular act they have comitted in my mind is taking down the Spanish Government with a few well timed bombs on a rail line. Whether an attack of this nature would work for or against them here in the U.S. is problematical. We have a tendency to be a bit less tolerant of blackmail here than in European countries where it has been common for years. I am a bit surprised at the Spanish people for caving in so readily as they have a long history of surviving terrorism. The Basque movement has used the tactic for decades to little avail so when an outside source can change a government with such a small effort it has to give them (the terrorists) a lot of hope to be able to use it in other countries as well.

Makes sense to me. I was thinking of the spanish train bombs when i read your first post the other night. If givin a choice they will go after the ones they see as the most threat. And on a per person bases also. They cant elimanate our govermt( congress etc) but they could influnce how some vote i think. Hell i think they even did it to bill clinton & that was just a death threat.
They would hit all of them too or the commen man/ soft targets for its panic&terrorizing effects....i think any& all targets are possible.
