Not in Pa.. anyway. This guy had chest pains and went to the hospital via a ambulance. The Doc ask him about his living habits. The guy told the doctor he drinks a 6 pack of beer after work at home everyday. The doctor reported him to the State of Pa as a alcoholic. The state has a law doctors must do this if they think the guy is a lush. The guy had his drivers licese pulled. There was no vehicles involved ,the guy never had any violations driving. Know he is spending money trying to fight in court to get his drivers license back. Now it is against the law to drink a beer in our own homes. The article stated Pa pulled over 2000 drivers license last year for the same reason The communist republic of Pennsylvania.
There is an old verse many states use and that is "Driving is a prevledge, not a right". It is used more than you think to suspend driving liceneses. Drinking 6 beers a day IMHO does not make an alcoholic, heck I drink 6 ice teas a day, does that make me a sugaralholic?
I wonder where the Fourth amendment of the Constituion comes in to play here? Or the fact that he was presumed guilty of nothing they have no proof for?
What are the grounds for suspending this guy"™s license? What law was violated? He has not committed a crime and I would think he would need to be found guilty in court of something to lose his driving privileges. Even a traffic ticket can be fought in court. There must be more to this story. Any more details?
Whatever happened to the doctor / patient confidentialality (sp?) agreement that doctors are supposed to subscribe to ?? I thought a doctor was not supposed to disclose any records about a patient unless that patient specifically gave the doctor permission to do so !!!

I have never understood why they say driving is a privilege and not a right.
If I have met all the requiremnets, don't have a bad driving record, lay down my money, it is my right to have a license.
If a person has several tickets etc. then it's a privilege. JMHO
Barnes, the local paper has had a very extensive report on this case. This is a law the Pa legislators passed. It requires all doctors to report someone who could be a danger on the road. This includes medical problems also. Apparently this doctor thought it could be a chance he might drive after drinking.I repeat the guy tested negative for any booze in his system that night at the hospital. That is why there is such a big fuss going on. You can read the article if you searched the web for the Reading Eagle paper
