Default Child killed by Assault Weapon?

Her is a release from the Ohioans Against Gun Violence . It seems they forgot the fact that the Ban on Assault Weapons is still in place, but didn't stop this incident from happening. And I don't see mention of the Make and Model of the weapon.

Ohio Child Shot with Assault Weapon

Toledo, OH - On Sept. 13th the law banning 19 Assault Weapons will sunset. The Government is ignoring the loss of life and injury from these weapons.

This week a 12 year old Fremont boy was shot at a family gathering while playing with assault rifles. According to the News Messenger police say there were over 30 different types of weapons seized.

Incidents like this one confirm the opinion of more than 69% of Ohioans surveyed and 87 Ohio police chiefs and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police who favor strengthening the ban. The Washington, D.C.-based Consumer Federation of America (CFA) and Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) commissioned the survey.

"This child should have been protected. We hope for his recovery from his physical wounds and hope he can also survive the trauma of the violence" said Toby Hoover, Executive Director, OCAGV. "Ohio gun owners and non-gun owners alike do not want military-style weapons in our neighborhoods."

Unless President Bush and Congress act, the federal ban on semi-automatic, military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips will expire on September 13, 2004.

"Ohioans deserve action to ban these weapons. We all want to know why someone can have 30 weapons to play 'war' in their homes that put all of us at risk" said Hoover. "It is past time for the President and Congress to ban all assault weapons. Not to do so is an assault on all of us."

Date of Release: July 28, 2004

These are the types of things that they anti-gun crowd are willing to exploit for their push for the renewal of the AWB. They don't stop to think that the Ban didn't work. They have no shame in exploiting the unfortunate tradgedy of a child being hurt by a firearm and blame it on Bush not wanting to make a call to extend the ban. These people are PIGS!I see they were able to count how many weapons there were but not what they were. It really doesn't matter what they were or how many someone had. But if you look carefully that is what their real story was 30 guns not Assault Weapons.

It's saddening anytime anyone and especially a child is killed in any manner at all.....and certainly including with firearms.

But where in hell is the statement about 55 million citizens murdered in the last century by their own government after their rights to own firearms was revoked.

Why can't we keep things in perspective?????

It would only be logical to conclude givin the hyperbol bs on these so called deadly military style assult weapons. One even wonders how the whole family didnt get murdered in there sleep by these deadly weapons or a whole naborhood! Why dont they just call these things weapons of mass destruction?
Maybe they can also ban birth to as a act of traumatic violence aginst the children?

30 diffent kinds eh?A smorgisboard of wmd,s ! Those ppl in cleveland&canton been sniffing there own toxic fumes to long.

Kids playing with guns! It's the darned parents fault, not the guns!
Laws punishing the criminal, or negligent use of guns work far better than punishing the guns, and responsible gun owners!
Sometimes I think that the anti's don't even care that much about the victims, it is just something to exploit for their own gain!

Although very sad for the child wounded, the parents are perhaps at fault.
My son has been taught from day 1 there are firearms in this house. At almost 6 he even helps me clean them on occaision. Which btw I do not see a problem with. If you hide things.....it makes them even more interesting. I do lock guns and ammo in seperate gun safes. And NO loaded guns are not ..."around" for Ian to get a hold of.

To smart for his own good and very strong for his age he would figure it out. With my supervision he does shoot a single shot .22 like a pro though, takes out every pop can or bottle put in front of him at 50 yds. Not yet 6.

remends me of the commercial "9 out of 10 prison inmates prefer the taste of baconesque to the taste of real bacon.

Who the hell cares what police chiefs think? They are nothing but politicians who happen to wear a badge.

Christine, you are doing a great thing with your son! It is good for them to learn proper gun handling and even shooting at an early age. Sadly, too many kids see only games and actors shot on one show, and alive and well the next day on another show! They are totally unaware of what real guns can do!
I took both my girls shooting, and hunting at early ages, when they see what a real bullet can do to a jug of water, watermellon, or an animal, they get a real respect for firearms!
On this and most other shootings, I still think it's 99% the parents fault!
Guns don't load themselves, or crawl out of locked cabinets!
