Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Don't worry, as we get closer to election day Buch/Cheney will see to it that these prices drop. If he doesn't he won't be re-elected.

Democrats say the war is about oil, but then why are prices HIGHER. They would be LOWER if the war was about oil. I DO know that if we didn't go into Kuwait in Gulf I, per KERRY'S position, we'd be paying a lot more for gas now.

And don't say it is about Bush and Cheney's oil holdings. They don't have any. Gore does, but not Cheney or Bush...

The people realize Bush isn't responsible for gas prices. In fact a recent poll resulted in only 10% of the people saying they thought Bush was responsible for high gas prices.

Over the last several years, large refineries are modernizing and getting bigger, increasing refining capacities. But in the meantime smaller refineries are closing down. The larger refineries have increased their production but consumer's demand is still ahead of our refineries' output.

One last thing.....oil companies are reaping record profits. Its a shame they all refuse to build any new ones.

after paying $2 a gallon , we are glad to see 1.75. now , do you really think the prices will ever go back to what they were before the war ? NOT .....oil companies are making too much money now. They have us happy about 1.75 ! [:'(]

They are building new ones! Unfortunately they are all overseas! It is not all about wages either! The restrictions placed on companies these days are running them to places that are more relaxed on restictions!
I live in a refining area, and work in the chemical business. I want a clean environment as much as the next person! I live, fish, and hunt the areas around here, and have lived here all of my life. Believe me, the environment in this area is many times cleaner than when I was a kid. People want cheap oil and chemical products, and the jobs they produce (which is just about everything you own that is not cotton or wood!) But they don't want the refineries and plants near them! One case in point is, they are wanting to build a large liquified natural gas facility in our area, now people are squalking about the dangers, while they moved next door to the refineries in the first place! BTW these new nat gas facilities are whats needed for many other jobs! The higher prices we as consumers are paying the last 3 years are so, are directly related to the shortage of domestic gas plants!
Lastly, the oil problems and the war are not Bush's fault, or anyone else in particular, for that matter! Other countries have been paying higher prices than us for years, and the major thing fueling (no pun intended) these higher prices is that the sleeping giant, China is waking up to the modern age, and is very hungry for fuel!
With demands growing and world oil supplies dwindling, prices will only get higher in the future! With 95% of everything we own made with oil products, we need to find other sources of energy for the long term future!
