Democrats filling the hotels, sidewalks, cafes, bars and restaurants of Boston and swarming through the FleetCenter this week have a message they desperately want the rest of America to hear. We are not liberal.

These politicos will spend the bulk of this week insisting that the Democratic Party is the one that represents the values and ideals of Middle America. The Republicans, they will say, are the ones whose beliefs are so far beyond the norm that they simply cannot be trusted.

Even the City of Boston is in on the act. The city, its boosters and local journalists are using the Democratic National Convention as their opportunity to tell the rest of the nation how normal, how just like the rest of the country, Boston and the Bay State are. Living in New Hampshire, which actually does share the values of Middle America, this all might seem a little odd. But they mean it. And they mean to make you believe it too.

Unfortunately for them, the Boston Globe published a poll of delegates to the convention. What they found was a group of individuals whose beliefs on a wide range of issues differ greatly from those held by most Americans.


62 percent support gay marriage, and 83 percent support civil unions.

At the time the Iraq War began, 80 percent opposed it. Today, 95 percent do.

86 percent think the United States is not winning the War on Terror.

89 percent support laws to restrict the availability of firearms.
These are not mainstream American views, which is why the Democratic Party has gone to great lengths to control the message and the messengers. If party leaders can keep the crazy uncles stuffed in the attic until after the election, this attempt to fool the American people into believing that the Democratic Party is a "œMain Street"� party might just work. But those crazy uncles usually have a habit of finding a open window and screaming at the neighbors at the most inopportune times.

I never have understood that, Why don't a liberal want to be called a liberal, are they ashamed or what, Is it they know Americans don't approve of their liberal viewpoints and its just another tactic to deceive their fellow Americans?

Liberals can't face up to the fact that they're nothing but a bunch of ungrateful socialists living in the wrong country . They have every right to want to be socialists if that's what makes them happy , in fact our Constitution guarantees their right to happiness . If they're so unhappy here I'll gladly support an ammendment to send them to the socialist country of their choice at taxpayer expense if needed . Where do I send the check for the first one ?

I just want them to be happy .

This is a scary election. The only solace is that by the time the liberals get done knifing each other in the back for their own causes the term hopefully will be almost over and I will be heading for 60. So I intend to do what I want any way regardless what dumb laws they enact!!! Feel sorry for my Kids and Grand kids thou. They will probably make me a criminal so they can hire more enforcement people to catch all the crooks they make. Pretty sick.

Turkeyhunter 15 is absolutely right when he says that Independents are liberals. They often have a few, albeit limited, conservative views--- like you -- but usually are far more liberal in their core values than they care to admit --again, just like you.
