Well they are still at it, they blocked another judge, this time they blocked a judge that was going to be voted on in going to the 9th circuit, Lord knows we need to replace some of them fruitcakes. This makes # 6 that they have filibustered and several more in their sights. And they complain about Frist and his moves on the frivilous lawsuits bill. They make me sick.

Considering the widespread Republican claims of Democratic "śobstructionism"ť on the confirmation of federal judges, one might be surprised to learn that the Senate has blocked only six of the President's nominees, while confirming 171.
Quote:
Conservative accusations of unwarranted Democratic stalling ring particularly hollow in light of the Republican record on judicial confirmations during President Clinton's terms in office. The refusal and delay of hearings on dozens of former President Clinton's nominees to federal courts by the Republican-led Senate from 1995 to 2000 exacerbated a widespread shortage of federal judges.
In fact, in the last five years of the Clinton presidency, Republicans blocked 20% of the nominees submitted to the Senate. In President Bush's first three years, only 3.4% of judicial nominees have been rejected. Already, the Senate has confirmed thirty Bush circuit court nominees"”this is a greater number than President Clinton was allowed in his two full terms in office.

Here's another article. I don't think any lobbyist should be a judge.
Senate Republicans knew Democrats would almost certainly block Myers, who was a lawyer and lobbyist for cattle and mining interests before joining the Bush administration and had drawn opposition from environmental, American Indian and other groups. But they scheduled a vote to showcase their argument -- already featured prominently in campaigns for this fall's elections -- that Democrats are obstructing Bush's choices for the bench.
The vote was less about Myers than ``a reflection of special-interest-group disdain for policies favored by farmers, ranchers, miners, the Bush Interior Department or anyone else who advocates balanced uses of Western lands,'' said Judiciary Committee chair Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.
Democrats countered that Myers personified the administration's approach to the environment and what they described as Bush's intention to pack the courts with ideologically driven conservatives.
``His nomination is the epitome of the anti-environment tilt of so many of President Bush's nominees'' and follows a pattern of trying to ``turn the independent federal judiciary into an arm of the Republican Party,'' said Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, ranking Democrat on the judiciary panel.
The Senate has confirmed 198 of Bush's judicial nominations. Of the six blocked by Democrats, two -- Charles Pickering Sr. of Mississippi and William Pryor Jr. of Alabama -- were given temporary appointments by Bush. Miguel Estrada, nominated for the appeals court for the District of Columbia circuit, withdrew. Three others -- Priscilla Owen of Texas and Carolyn Kuhl and Janice Rogers Brown, both of California -- still are being filibustered

Who gives a rat's a** about the lower court appointments. What we're talking about is the 9th Circuit court of Appeals and other high level courts. The liberal democrats have already said that they will fillibuster any judge nominated to the Supreme court if it doesn't agree with their ideology--THAT'S JUST PLAIN WRONG!!
They lost and can't get over it so they try to fillibuster any high level nominee. klintoon was allowed to put ginsberg in with very little trouble and everyone knew she was a card carrying liberal--the most liberal on the court. President Bush won the election fair and square despite the crying by the dems and should be able to put in who he chooses. They have all been exemplary and there was no excuse NOT to at least allow a vote on them.
It doesn't surprise anyone that most newspapers will go to great lengths to attempt to convince people that President Bush's appointments have been treated fairly when anyone can clearly see that they have NOT been.
