Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Freedom of Speech

Why is Freedom of speech used as a defense in so many arguments in todays society. The left especially likes to say rude abnoxious things about Bush or the Republicans for example, and then when others respond with their own Free Speech the left seems to say that it is discrimination or some other bs. The latest example is the Whoopi Goldberg Slim Fast incident.

From the news coverage you would think that slim fast because they are a business organization has no free speech issues and Goldberg can say whatever she wants about anything nd should not have been fired. Why doesn't slim fast have the same right to say YOUR FIRED?

Why should any business have to associate with someone so hate filled toward OUR President? Whoopi was a representative of a product, a spokesman for slim fast. If she does something embarssing to them or any company she represents they should have every right to disassociate themselves with her. AND I'M GLAD THEY DID! Maybe some of these holier than thou so-called celebrities will get the picture, and will make movies instead of doing politics. We have enough windbags in Washington.

The left has an aversion for anything remotely resembling personal responsibility. They are attempting to do away with anything like individuality, nobody can be an individual, they must be associated with a group therfore anything done by an individual must be set aside and the responsibility associated with the group that person is identified with. Since whoopi was disciplined by an organization, it must be assumed that the discipline is targeted for the group she represents and therefore the first ammendment is called into play. A bit convoluted perhaps but it seems to make sense to the left.

I think slim fast was totally with in their rights to fire Whoopie.

I also think the any person has a right to criticise the President or his administration. There is a line that shouldn't be crossed, however.

I do too, but let them be ready to suffer the consequences after they do and don't be a whinny *** about it. By the way what has become of the dixie chicks.

Whoopi Goldberg would be reason enough for me not to buy slimfast.

The dixie chicks sold out there concerts right after they had their "say" on GWB. There currently on tour selling out stadiums.

This from 2003 after "her" GWB statement.

Country stars the Dixie Chicks have had a record day for ticket sales as their concert tour raked in $49m (£30.5m).
The Grammy award-winning trio sold out all 867,000 tickets in a day, surpassing the popularity of tours of stars such as Madonna and Sir Paul McCartney.

The group embark on their 59-date tour on 1 May in Greenville, South Carolina, and finish the US leg on 4 August in Nashville, Tennessee, the heartland of country music.

They then head off to Europe, starting in Stockholm, Sweden, on 6 September.

The Dixie Chicks picked up three Grammys at last months ceremony, including best country album and best country group performance.

One of the largest ticketing organisations, Ticketmaster, said it had logged more than one million tickets on Saturday, breaking its record set in 2000.

It said the record had been helped by the enormous demand for seats for the Dixie Chicks and Bruce Springsteen arena tours.

Country artist Tim McGraw has also set a record by performing in front of 68,000 people at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Show.

McGraw, who is married to fellow country star Faith Hill, is touring to promote his double-platinum album Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors.

Doesn't seem like it hurt tyem too much. What I found funny was that people were destroying records they had already bought. Talking about closing the door after the horse got out.

I agree with these posts 100%. Whoopi can say what she wants and SlimFast can fire her if they want. She wants her "free speech," while denying SlimFast theirs. How hypocritical!

Some people just don't understand that their are resposibilities tied to every right. And specifically to free speech, we have to deal with the consequences of that speech.

Just like fng here. He had every right to trash military personel. But he has to deal with being ostricized, criticized, etc.

And about the Dixie Chicks, I never liked them in the first place, but I think they did loose some fans for good, but others forgave them. That's fine too.

I didn't know Slimfast had fired Whoopi but good for them. Whoopi had the freedom of speech to make her moronic comments and Slimfast had their right to fire her for being a moron. People are quick to shout about their freedom of speech but get silent quickly when it comes to others' freedom of speech also. Whoopi is being a hypocrite.

As far as freedom of speech goes, the democrats claim freedom of speech when they criticize the President or the Dixies Chicks criticizing GWB, but when Dick Cheney tells some ratty liberal SOB senator to go f*** himself, they media has a hay day. hypocrites...i think what cheney said was great...wasnt good to say in front of the media, but overall i think patrick leahy got what he deserved..as far as whoopi getting fired, good riddance bitch. i never liked her anyway..
