Finally Bill Frist is using his power as majority leader to put the AWB extention and Democrats on the back burner. Here is a plea from the Million Moms and the Brady Campaign trying to muster some support. Here is the email alert they sent out.
Dear Friend,
Senator Bill Frist, the Republican Majority Leader (and a physician), is currently preventing the Senate from voting on renewing the Assault Weapons Ban. A majority of Senators are on the record supporting renewal. But Dr. Frist is blocking it. Attaboy, Dr. Frist.
We need to tell Dr. Frist that he will be responsible for putting assault weapons back on the street and he should let the ban be renewed. ACTION ITEM: EMAIL SENATE MAJORITY LEADER BILL FRIST.
As a doctor, he of all people should recognize the importance of life-saving legislation like the Assault Weapons Ban.
We need to flood Dr. Frist's office with tens of thousands of e-mails telling him to stop blocking the Assault Weapons Ban renewal. Tell Dr. Frist to listen to police across the country and mainstream organizations throughout the United States who want the ban renewed.
Right now, please:
I SAY WE ALL SHOULD SEND A LETTER OF THANKS TO BILL FRIST OR CALL HIS OFFICE

i think a letter or call would be best , it sounds like his e-mail won't be accesible for awhile , it's good to see that someone in the senate is actually fighting the gun grabbers , does anybody know who else is on the same side as senator frist and is helping him block it ?
That said, what Frist is doing isn't right. I understand that the Democrats love the concept and Daschle was particularly fond of it, it has basically become common practice. That doesn't make it right. Put it on the floor for a vote and if our elected Senators vote for renewal, so be it. That's the way this country is supposed to work.

Bush does NOT want it to the floor, he is screwed either way if it passes. He can't approve it and has already said he would sign it. I believe he did this as a political play both sides move. Hoping he would never get called on it, he said he would sign it, that way, his record stays clean on signing gun control stuff, but he can claim to support the extension.

It may not be the right way but its one way of doing it. Its about time the libbies get a dose of their own medicine, I see it as a pay back for what they have done to the judges that Bush appointed, Frist must have learned something from them. IMO if the libbies want to play this kind of strategery so can we.
