Default ***** marriage to be voted on July 15

SENATOR FRIST URGES YOU TO SPEAK UP FOR MARRIAGE

Next week the U.S. Senate will be voting on the Federal Marriage Amendment. This amendment would define marriage as the union of one man and one woman, and is a necessary addition to our Constitution. The FMA is vital to preserve the institution of marriage in our country.

I can tell you that your voice matters. As Senators, it is our responsibility to listen to you. So I encourage you to make your views known.

Thank you for standing up to protect marriage.

Senator Bill Frist, M.D.
Majority Leader
United States Senate

---------------------------------------------

From Donald E. Wildmon, Founder and Chairman
American Family Association

Would you take a moment and act on the request of Senator Frist? All he is asking is that you make two phone calls to your Senators. These could be the most important phone calls you will ever make for the future of your country and your children.

Your help in this matter is urgent. Please call your Senators and ask them to support the Federal Marriage Amendment. You can reach them at 1-202-224-3121.

This site also lists the District Offices numbers (often a local call), the current position of the Senator on the Federal Marriage Amendment, and your opportunity to join nearly two million others in signing a Petition opposing homosexual marriage. Some of the Senators even have a toll-free number you can call. Be sure to call and then sign the Petition.

Voting Clarification:
A vote for the Federal Marriage Amendment is a vote for traditional marriage.

A vote against the Federal Marriage Amendment is a vote for homosexual marriage.

I urge you to respond to Sen. Frist"™s request and call your two Senators. Time is short.

Finally, forward this email to your family and friends.

1. Call your two Senators.

2. Sign the Petition.

3. Forward this email to friends and family.

The link doesn't work .

FYI , while I support an ammendment to protect marriage I'd be very careful signing anything that Donald Wildmon approves of unless I read it thoroughly first . That nutcase is the biggest ***** baiter in Texas and used to ride shotgun with Jerry Falwell during the Moral Majority days .

Marriage is a state issue, and as such, I will not endorse any federal law restricting marriage.

Like I've said before, when was the last time the federal government issued a marriage license? We are the United States. It's important that Americans don't lose sight on that principle. The more power we give the Feds, the less control we have over our own lives.

The legality of marriage is currently a state issue , the concept of it is a moral and/or religious matter .

Marriage existed long before states , or even goobermints . Throughout history it has always been tacitly agreed that it is a union between a man and woman . If this weren't true it would already be legal to marry someone of your own gender and this thread wouldn't exist . I agree that we probably don't need an ammendment to our Federal Constitution , but all states should consider it with their state Constitutions since they regulate marriage . It would then be no different than a "Right to hunt" ammendment .

Well, this amendment would make same-sex marriage illegal, no? The feds have no business doing so.

Yes, it's been around since the dawn of history. I see no need now, after 8,000+ years, for our government to make a determination. If the states want to amend their constitutions, more power to them. The Feds need to back off.

It's funny that religious conservatives despise large central government--until they think they can get what they want from it.

No , with notable exceptions(Ma,Vt) same sex marriage is already illegal in all states , even California .

Personally , I see no need for goobermint to regulate marriage at all whether at state or Federal level . However , at some point an issue like this must have come up that prompted folks to demand regulation , otherwise it would already be legal like in ancient Rome .

Amen to that !

Wait a minute. If the Constitution says that marriage is only between a man and a woman, then it is essentially outlawing gay marriage above the states' heads. I just can't go with that.

Religious bigotry prompted it.

One other aspect of states' gay marriage rights is that it could very well encourage some states to lean further left while others move to the right. There are some people who won't leave their homes for anything, but most people are a little more flexible. I encourage lefties to congregate together, and the same for righties. As long as that leaves Vermont for us Libertarians.

Agreed , but you know what happened the last time the Fed and States got in a rhubarb over "states rights" ... Federal laws already supercede state laws , so why do the states bother to have laws ?
