whos going to face CHENEY in the vp debates? i know for a fact that people inside the kerry camp are having trouble picking a vp because of cheney. Cheney is a smart guy and doesnt beat around the bush like most politicians and Senator Leahy found out the hard way. Now you have to wonder why Bill Richardson dropped out and its not because of his "DUTIES" as governor of New Mexico, i think he cant face cheney or kerry thinks so. now it isnt going to be EDWARDS even though alot of people on left like edwards kerry isnt going to pick him for several reasons. Kerry and Edwards do not like each other. It's somewhat personal, but there's something else to it as well. Kerry apparently and this is according to the people inside his campaign; a lot of them talk. Kerry is apparently one of these guys who thinks you have to "wait your turn." You have to put in the time. You don't run for president, as Edwards is doing, after one term in the Senate. You aren't qualified yet. You're a rookie. You haven't paid your dues, and as such he has been reluctant to put him on the ticket for that reason because he just thinks the guy is hop-scotching ahead of everybody way too soon. so i think its either gonna be gephardt or the guy from iowa tom vilsack. either way cheney will slice and dice them.

RE: cheney vs whom?
I think Cheney is a big disappointment, especially to those on the fence.
If GW is re-elected, will the GOP nominate Cheney for 2008? I don't think so...
And what has Cheney done since in office?
Kerry has, according to various "reports", a short list of candidates for VP.
They are all well-qualified, maybe a few moreso than the frontrunner [&:] , especially Dean and Clark...although the same reports mention that they are probably not high on the list...

Some of us disagree with you but that is your choice.

Bush is the one who picks his Vice-Presidential candidate, not the GOP. Same thing for Kerry and the Demos. Whichever candidate is running for President picks their VP.

What do you think he is supposed to do? As much as I don't care for Gore, he did what Clinton wanted him to do and that is the VP's job.

Entering the twilight zone now. Exactly how is Dean qualified? This is the same guy who the demos rejected and then made fun of for some scream he made. The demos reject him for a Presidential candidate but now he is qualified to be a VP? The same guy who "is a heartbeat away from the Presidency" if the President is no longer able to function? am I missing something here or is the democratic party now "flipflopping" on their opinion of Dean? And Wesley Clark???? The same guy who President Clinton FIRED from NATO? The same guy who most of his colleagues say is "unfit to be Prsident?" How is Clark qualified to be VP? I am curious as to why you think either of these guys is qualified to be VP Strut&Rut. What is your reasoning?

RE: cheney vs whom?
Cal,
I expect the VP to be one of two things: 1) knowledgeable and presentable to the public, pushing the party's platform, and 2) electable if the President wins 2 terms.
Passing of the torch, type of deal, and I can't see that in Cheney. Particularly, I see a businessman in Cheney, but a very bad speaker and a person of questionable ethics...especially when all the public hears/see of him is his business practices. One also has to question his health, which has been below average.
As for Dean and Clark...answer is simple...1) they're not lifelong politicians, hence they have "fresh" ideas, and 2) both highly knowledgeable about areas of importance.
Dean is an MD, Clark is a retired General. As for Clark being fired, and the fact that Clinton knew little of security and military issues, how can being fired by Slick Willy be a detriment

Cal,
Also, this is not my list nor my "reports". Just what I've read/heard.
Also remember...Dean and Clark, besides Edwards, were the only two candidates to compete with Kerry for votes. Gephardt had Union backing, but couldn't win a state in his region, the Midwest.
The military experience of Clark is a plus, as is the mindset of Dean...remember, it's not about swaying your own party, it's about strengthening your party while attracting undecided third party voters...

S&R, I understand that you're posting other people's opinions/ideas and are asking for comments and some evaluation. This is going to be a good debate and actually cause all of us to learn a little more about politics and the good ole US of A. thanks for responding like a gentleman and scholar.
I agree that a VP should be knowledgeable and presentable to the public. Having a dummy for VP severely curtails a VP's usefulness. It's a given that anybody's VP should push for that party's platform. I think Cheney is quite knowledgeable, having served in congress AND worked in the business arena. I find him to be quite presentable to the public and recall being particularly impressed with how he debated Joe Lieberman during the 2000 election. I recall thinking that Cheney was actually a better debater and speaker than everybody else in that campaign, both Republican and Democrat.
I agree that Cheney's health is less than perfect. It would be nice if he was able to run for President after President Bush retires. However, his maybe not being able to run for President doesn't preclude him from being a good VP. I'd rather have a good VP for 8 yerars than a mediocre one for 16 (counting being President).
I know that electability is an absolute prerequisite for a candidate. Howeever, it does not make one a good candidate, just electable. I am a former Marine and have a high regard for everybody that has served or is serving today in the military. However, military service does not make one a good candidate. Clark has a record of looking out for # 1 at the expense of his troops and that is a bad sign for how he would perform as President. A President needs to look at all of the facts, decide what he can REALISTICALLY do to correct the problems and then stick to his guns on implimenting the solutions. Good leaders do that, even when fickle public opinion (i.e. media opinion) changes their minds after the solution takes longer than a few weeks, etc.
For these considerations and others, IMHO, I do not think Dean or Clark are good candidates for VP and they absolutely would not be good presidents. Neither one is really strong enough to attract that many undecided voters or ignite Kerry's campaign for him. And if you think about it, you'll notice that Kerry is more afraid of selecting a running mate who will upstage him than he is concerned about getting a good candidate, let alone one who will help him win.

Cal,
I think that's very true for goal-oriented, well-informed undecided voters.
However, most that are still undecided are neither goal-oriented or well-informed.
Actually, I saw in my local paper where Clark was selling out dinners, for the Kerry campaign, at $1000 a pop. So people in general must want to hear him speak, at the least.
As for Cheney, when I was referring to presentable I was referring for his apparent discontent to give speeches. His speaking style leaves a little to be desired, as he goes from brilliant phrases to almost nonsense...maybe it goes back to his age and health , or just my perception [&:]
But as for Liebermann...trust me, living in CT for 6+ years, nobody likes listening to Joe Blow...the man could take a month to answer a simple yes/no question [:'(] so anyone beating him like a dog in the debates should be no surprise...
AND on that note, although he failed miserably at the VP and Presidential bid, there's been quite a few rumblings that he's headed to the governor's palace in Hartford, CT...
