Who would Democrats rather have at their convention? Sen. Zell Miller (D-Ga.) or former Chrysler chairman Lee Iacocca? You can bet it's Miller, who would attract many more conservative Democrats to support John Kerry [related, bio] than the endorsement of Iacocca (what did he do, again?) will.
Alas, Miller will be busy preparing his speech for the Republican National Convention in New York. And to judge by the reaction of some Democrats, it's quite a coup for the GOP. Miller's decision is a ``shame and a disgrace,'' said Rep. John Lewis (D-Georgia).
Miller has already made no bones about his feelings for the ``out-of-touch, ultraliberal from Taxachusetts'' John Kerry. A prime-time speech by the same man who gave the keynote address for the 1992 nomination of Bill Clinton will hurt. No wonder Democrats are furious.
I would like to see W pick him for his VP. He is what the democrat party used to be.
