President Ford, President Carter, President Reagan, and President Clinton all agreed that assault weapons should be banned. Over 75% of Americans do too. But President Bush is doing nothing to renew the Assault Weapons Ban. In this day and age, why would anyone want to see these lethal weapons back on the street?
Here's what will happen if the ban is allowed to expire:
Eighteen-year-olds will be able to walk into gun stores and buy new American-made AK-47s.
In many states, it will be possible to bring concealed TEC-9 assault pistols, loaded with thirty rounds of ammunition, into bars, churches and sports arenas, and even public schools or universities.
Kids as young as 13 will be able to buy brand new American-made AK-47s at gun shows and through classified ads.
New high capacity ammunition magazines that allow guns to fire up to 100 rounds without reloading will be mass-produced and sold on a cash-and-carry basis to anyone, with no questions or background checks.

I will be able to buy a new american made AK without being 18? KICK ASS!!! all kidding aside, these people manipulate others so much. just go to the brady campaign's website. i sent them a voice mail picking out a few mistakes and misleading defintions they gave. they never called back.

I'm sorry to say that this rifle (Valmet model 1976) is not currently exported in semi-auto, or made at all, but if my info is correct, quite a few of them have been sold to the west, both in 7.62 x 39 and 5.56 x 45. Nowadays, a used 76 will cost upto $1100, depending on condition. I've seen some pretty steep prices being paid for new ones.
I doubt if any Finnish-made "assault" rifle is exported to the US right now, except for law-enforcement or paramilitary customers. For some time now, the debate is ongoing as to exporting military rifles is to continue at all.
Lifting the ban might help....?? I was told that during the 70's and 80's, the US was the largest civillian market for Valmet semi-auto rifles..
Kevin, the army doesn't use this rifle anymore as its main arm, the 92 replaced it, but it is still being held as reserve, I doubt if those will ever be sold of, they're selective fire..... so probably not for the civillian market. Some were given to the Baltic states I heard, ot sure if this is true though.
I realy couldn't tell you what they would cost, a lot more than any AK for sure, but then again, you'd get a whole lot more rifle for your money.
