Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default U.S. to lose air supremacy?

General: U.S. Dominance of Skies May Wane

This is not what I want to hear. It doesn't matter one bit whether the Soviets are defeated or not; there will always be some new threat down the road. The Russians' newer tanks impress me and strengthen my belief that we need to increase military systems R&D. We all know that our current and potential enemies use a good bit of Russian equipment, and so we need to design and produce more effective gear to outpace them.

Air power is crucial to our military operations, and we need to get our priorities straight. Thoughts?

Not exactly what I want to hear either. I wish the article went into a little more depth about the Raptor and what the critics mean when they say that "it was built to counter a threat that hasn't existed since the Soviet Union."

This country should never stop spending money on inventing new and innovative ways to incapacitate our enemy - whether it's on the ground or in the air.

problem with the F-22 is that the technology is already almost 20 years old. it(the technology) is developing faster than we can use it in a tactical application. i dont think our air suprmacy can wane...or our naval powers...nobody else has the cash...our ground forces is what could recede...we need more armored vehicles, tracked and wheeled. i dont know if some of this james bond stuff they're toying with is getting us anywhere...remember, our enemies are using homemade bombs, 40year old AK-47's, and just as old RPG's that are as simple to use as a #2 pencil. The russains have the best automatic rifle in the world right now in the AN-94. its the most accurate assault rifle ever made. the operating mechanism is one of a kind. read about it. its quite interseting. the russki's can't export it because they've got a huge backlash because of all the AK's and clones they mass produced and sold to other nations.

I can buy into that arguement.... but don't bet on us losing our dominance. The will of a free man fighting for something will always win out over someone fighting because they were told to. Look at all of our conflicts the main one coming to mind is WWII Hitler had a much larger force and they were entrenched so were the ***s, with our willingness to fight and freedom to think for ourselves we will always perservere.

Hey,

Did you see the story about the PRIVATE INVENTOR that got 25 Million of capital venture money and DESIGNED AND BUILT a 3 man space shuttle and actually launched it ?

It takes 500 Million just to launch ONE 1970's shuttle into orbit and potentially blow it up... ahhh goobermint.

I agree. But it would make our jobs that much easier if we had the best equipment. American determination and ingenuity are great forces, but I want our troops to be able to hit faster, harder, and stealthier that anyone else.

We have the best equipment. Never assume that a piece of information released onto the masses is not politically motivated. There is a constant tug a war going on between the various branches of the military for money. Each branch will tend to poor mouth, cry wolf, if it will help them in the fight for money.

The merits of the Russian airplane are not new information, but the merits of a true dog fighter are greatly overstated when the entire air superiority suite is evaluated in combat. Planes are a flying suitcase, carrying the latest electonic gadgetry that does the fighting for them, not just the forward facing gun anymore. Take out the latest black box, and the plane drastically less leathal.

I'm sure that in the test, the US was holding back. Did our guys use the full capability of AWACS? An Aegis destroyer can litterally fry a plane out of the sky by concentrating its radar on it, bet this wasn't tried either. I wouldn't be so arrogant to say that the Indians can't touch us, but I would bet that they are still 20 years behind us in technology and training.

I'm happy about that one. I read an interview recently with Chuck Yeager in a magazine- his opinion of NASA? He couldn't overstate what a bunch of overpaid, incompetant baffoons they are. Something along the lines of it took NASA over a hundred flights in the X-1, but they never broke the sound barrier, The airforce (including him) only took 12 to succeeed.
