See below link for complete article. There are allegations that the UN's own Office of Internal Oversight Services (which is charged with investigating abuses in the UN) has been covering up abuses of the food for oil program administered with deposed Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein. If you ever wondered who polices the UN, now you know.[]
I've always despised the UN and continue to do so. We are America, the bastion of freedom and liberty; I resent receiving orders from some world governmental group who thinks that "they know best". Once the other member nations spread democracy across their lands (let alone the world), then we can talk about their ideas.
Their weapons inspections are fruitless, their international gun control proposals make me sick, and now we see that the high-and-mighty ones babysitting the planet aren't so high-and-mighty after all.
We need to get out there and start solving our own problems ourselves. If these third world countries that depend on American contributions to the UN want help, they can ask us personally. Of course then they'd actually have to treat us with some level of respect (God forbid!).
Sorry, I had to go off. I can't tell you how much I hate the UN.
I read somewhere about a year ago or so that the UN once had a COnference to address starvation in Africa that was actually held in Africa believe it or not. I believe that 50,000,000 yes that is correct was spent on food, hotel and God knows what other things to study this problem. That is pretty hypocritical in itself. Another example .it took Koffi Annan 8 weeks after 9/11 to vist the twin towers wreckage..If memory serves me correctly the UN is in the 40's as far as street numbers in Manhattan ..it would be a very short taxi ride or limo ride if your the Secretary General. I'll stop now the BP is going up again.
