Default New U.S. Army BDUs

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?g=e...1&a=0&printer=

I'm not an expert in camoflauge, but I do know that the contrast between the pattern and the background is pretty high. I suppose that in the shade it wouldn't be a bright, but who has the luxury of choosing shaded position in the heat of battle? I like the USMC digital camo a lot better.

Do we really need a universal pattern? Thoughts?

You'd need to see the camo in a variety of settings to determine how effective it really is. ALL camo will stick out standing on a lawn.

Very true. I'd imagine that it would do well in urban or desert enviroments, but all of the green in America and Europe could contrast it way too much.

We have the greatest military force ever, and so I would tend to trust them to know what they're doing. Can't wait to see this on troops in action.

The History channel had show about the evolution of camouflage about a month ago and this was highlited in the show. That camo is computer generated and if you see it up close it is millions of square pixels making up the patterns. It is suppose to be the best thing for military camo since the invention of it.

They do have different colors for different environments. I believe they have three or four colors. Wooded, desert, urban, and snow.

According to the article linked to the photo, there will be only one universal pattern for the Army. I've seen the different color schemes of the USMC digital camo, and I think that kind of flexibility is the way to go.

Yeah I misread, If the Army is going with that single pattern for most of their camo I have to believe that they will stick out like a sore thumb in a desert situation. Humans do see color and that big grey blob would be way too easy to spot at a distance, especially if there were a bunch of them in the same area. I think that stuff would work very well if they were fighting above timberline in rocky terrain.[&:]

Their problem is that they have some computer geek designing this stuff instead of a hunter.

You read my mind. When I play paintball, I find it a heck of lot more difficult to spot someone wearing MO or AT camo than woodland camo. Well, at least in the woods and fields where we usually play. There has to be something better out there for our troops.

The US military along with Canada spent millions $$s on researching these camo patterns using super computers to design the best camoflage patterns. The result: the digital patterns are darn near a copy of the German Flectar patterns that have been used for over 60years.

I can't get over the fact that camoflage patterns used by people have alot of greens in them- how many animals that live in the forest are green in color to hide them, and how many times has a rabbit, a deer, or a grouse suprised you when they flushed litterally at your feet because you couldn't see them until they moved?

It looks like it may work well in Middle Eastern urban environment? Up against those stucko/sand colored buildings?

try to picture that design against that style building during a twilight period or even close to dusk/dawn? We try to stay away from midday ops anyway?
