The sky was clear blue and New Yorkers and Pentagon workers were going about their daily lives and the rest of America was too. Then the gates of Hell opened up. Remember?

Also remember the hell of those innocent people in the plane over Pennsylvania. Most of us will never forget (although it seems that some already have).
F4yg, you're a good guy, and I'm going to give it to you straight.
I've not forgotten, and I doubt most Americans have. Getting them to understand the big picture is another story altogether, however.
Regarding the Flash presentation, I found the quotes inspiring (saw a few I'd missed). But I didn't really think it's in the best taste to show the death and destruction of 9/11, at least not at first. I guess I've just seen enough as it is with the media overplay.
I'm usually the first to say that we need to see what war is to properly understand why we fight and die for a cause. When my wife cringes at the gore in Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers, I tell her that's just how it is. Remember it so that you know what we're up against the next time we're forced to fight against evil in order to prevent it from ever threatening us again. It's a horrible business, but sometimes we have no other option.
But seeing those people burning, jumping, dying really hit me below the belt. I just didn't want to look at it anymore. I don't need any more reasons to want to destroy terrorists.
I wouldn't show it to someone unless they had never seen it and really wanted to. Even then, I'd give a long disclaimer.
I guess it struck a raw nerve, kind of like when I see the B&W German D-Day footage of the three or four infantrymen running across the open sand. One keep running, another falls and struggles with all his might to get back up (he didn't), and the other drops dead in his spot. It tears me up inside.
I think the Flash was awesome. We'll never forget the actual events of that day. But, unfortunately, people have already forgotten why we're fighting this war. They think this "problem" should be fixed by now.
This is a visual society. As long as the images stay out of the public eye I think why we're fighting this war gets hazy. The people of this country need constant visual reminders.
Was it a wake up call? Yep, from the devil himself. Let's do what we can to keep that fact in the front of our minds.
Aught Six, I really like reading your posts. Mainly because I agree with 95% of them and you make a damn lot a sense. But the images in the Flash presentation were not grotesque. They DO show a lot of people struggling for life to no avail. But how else do you show it without showing it?

I understand where you're coming from here, NCO. Thanks for the kind words, too; the feeling's mutual. I was just giving my personal reaction, and I know that each man/woman will react differently. I have a good photographic memory, and so I have a difficult time forgetting scenes like that. I suppose that's why I don't want any more of it. The more violent and traumatic the image, the longer it stays with me.
But you're right--some people have forgotten, or they simply don't care either way (disgusting). If that Flash can increase one more person's awareness of our ongoing struggle and its justifications, then it is a tool of good.
That was very wonderful. I loved the quotes. I appreciated someone showing footage from that terrible day. I feel that it has not been shown enough. If it were shown more, I would highly doubt that as many of the Americans that are against the war on terror would be. Thankyou.

With this I disagree! Well not entirely, but mostly. I feel that maybe people haven't forgotten about September 11,2001, but have closed their minds to it. It's the it didn't effect me mentality. Well it did effect me. And my part of this war is to help remind Americans of those who sacrificed on OUR behalf.

Sorry my post disturbed you, but I had to post it for those who aren't disturbed by the horror we face in this country and around the world. For those who truly need to be reminded of those events and why we are at war now. It sounds like you are one of those who won't forget and for that I thank you. But I am also giving it straight to everyone here. I don't think censorship from these things is good.

Don't worry about it; I made the decision to watch, and I blame you for nothing. If anything, I'm glad that others here have found renewed inspiration for our cause. Censorship is probably the worst possible thing we could ever allow in the fight for liberty, and the battle is still far from being won.

I gave you warning of what was to come in my post. What media overplay? Could you explain this? We have been shut off from these pictures since a week after the events happened and now we have people being beheaded in the Middle east and the media finds it in our best interest not to show them. I did see the Nick Berg video and was horrified by it. I wish I didn't see it, but that doesn't change the fact that it is happening and if Americans want to see these thing they should not be censored. I will say that after the Nick berg beheading my resolve was strengthened greatly. And after today those scum bag terrorists cowards, murdering Paul Johnson in Saudi Arabia. I'll be damned if I let others turn their heads and pretend it not happening. I'm not accussing you of this by any means I can read in your post your true feelings on this subject. And I understand your emotions that were expressed in your type.
Again I apologize to you for having to witness something we should all remember without having to be reminded.

Aught Six I guess we must have both been typing our last posts at the same time.
