This latest mountain lion article has got me wondering how it has become politically incorrect to be at the top of the food chain. We've got predator written all over us, and we're even higher up than the other predators. Why should I feel guilty for maintaining the natural order and remaining the ultimate predator? We kill prey for food, and we kill predators for safety. What is the big deal?
Really, I'm at a loss here. Enlighten me on the anti's philosophy regarding predation.
Some would argue that you, a human, are not representive of a true predator. You do not need meat to sustain you. A mountain lion, for example does.
Therefore you kill for pleasure, and pleasure only. I am not in league with the anti,s, But they make good aurguments to thier cause
I say BS. The forward-set eyes and canine teeth give us away. We, as a species, only began to eat a large variety of plants some 8-10,000 years ago, which is less than 25% of our total existence as Homo Sapien.

Partly correct Aught Six ,
we also have a thirty foot large intestine , spadelike incisors , and grinding molars . All hallmarks of plant consumption , particularly complex carbohydrates such as roots . Our earliest forebears were hunter-gatherers prior to the inception of agriculture approx. 10-12,000 years ago , but they primarily subsisted on roots , nuts , etc. when they couldn't catch some meat . That would make us omnivores since we can digest both plant and animal materials for sustenance .

Most cats will also eat vegetable matter as do canines and bears with the exception of the polar bear. Should they change too?
I have no problem with being identifies as the top preditor in the food chain. What makes us that is what also gives us many other options as to what we eat and why we eat it. Our brain, all our body parts and what we can do with them, puts us at the top.
That is also the reason we have the debate. There are those who believe we should be above what we were when we were the hunters. We have moved beyond the hunter gather and have become the farmer and researcher. Our brain, has in their mind, over come our instinct or should have at this point in time. We know how to extract our needed nutrictional values from many sources other than animals that we can kill in the wild.
Where they go wrong in my view is them telling me what I can do or should do. If I choose to hunt and kill my food or gather food from the forest floor and it is still legal. it is natural and my right. It is part of what God made me.
If they choose to slaughter animals in some sterile envorment (right) and believe they are above others for doing so, be happy. Just don't force it on me as the only way.
If they want nothing but vegtables, fine, but agian don't force that on me.
I will not try to convert any of them into hunters and in turn they should not try to bury that drive, that amber from the fire of the hunting party of our earlest adventure that still burns with in my soul.

What all of the antis seem ot forget is that for them to live something has to die. Be it plant or animal something has to die.
Most, the die hard PETA freaks and vegans accepted, still eat meat and everyone uses animal products in one way or another. The difference is that we prefer to kill our own and they prefer to hire a hit man to do their dirty work.

It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president."

Aught six to truly understand these BOZOs you'd have to smoke a couple pounds of pot at the same time your snorting Drano. Then you could see their rationale.[:@][:'(]
BigBulls is right, they think the meat comes in plasctic and styrofoam.
A couple years ago I was in Safeway buyin some vineagar to start processing my deer,I had on a camo coat and hat. This elderly Lady asked politely if I was going hunting? I told her no, that actually I was done and had been successful. IN those words as not to offend someone who may not be up on hunting. Well then she asked then what the vineagar was for and I told her, it's to clean the meat before I wrap it up, gets the germs, dirt and hair off it that might be left. Man, the look she gave. Like she just drank month old warm milk.I thought she was gonna have a tizzy fit. Kind of getting a little offended buy her look and action, I poked my finger on her package of steaks and told her "That had hair on it too a couple days ago" Probably not the politest way of putting it but I think I got my point across. The masses like the end result as long as they don't have to see the process.
I think part of why we are considered to be at the top of the food chain is because we us methods other than our own hands and instincts to kill animals. We use guns. We use bows, traps. etc. However, I have always found it intriguing to see what it would be like to take a deer with only what God gave me.
