Jacques Chirac decided to send a deputy instead. I heard no official reason for this decision, he was here in Georgia yesterday. Too much to ask I guess. Maybe politics gets in the way of showing respect.

1. He's already here, so it's not like he'd be pulled away from his work at home (the reason that deputies are typically sent).
2. Schroeder, Berlusconi, and other heads of state are going to attend.

Who freakin' cares!! They better hope some neighbor doesn't decide to teach them the goose step again 'cause they will be SOL. I think this move just embarrasses the french frys and means squat to us.

its hard to understand why a current world leader would miss an event like the funeral of arguably the most influential world leader of the second half of the 20th century.
if not for Reagan bringing the cold war to an end whos to say the french wouldn't be under communist rule now. they are not a grateful people.
