Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Another unconstitutional law!!!!

How about the seatbelt law? The driver has to wear a seatbelt? Who is he going to hurt but himself? Am I going to fly out the windshield through another windshield of another car and smash into the driver killing us both? Not real common.
For example: I can smoke a carton of cigs while I drive and it would be no problem to anyone. Smoking will eventually kill me, but it is not illegal to do while driving. Driving without a seatbelt will not hurt anyone but the driver. It sure as heck does not lead to death. Smoking kills tens of thousands a year, maybe more. Anti-smoking laws are made to protect those around us who do not want to breathe second hand smoke. Seatbelt laws are good for kids and all passengers, but why the driver. It is the drivers choice to not wear one same as the smokers to smoke.
Does the state of Illinois want to sneak in extra income from seatbelt tickets? I heard the ticket is $55. Illinois has issued more than 20,000 of those this year. There goes another right taken away for giving money to the state.

Your seatbelt ticket is cheap - ours is $110, and they can pull you over for it as well!

My car has the automatic seatbelt that comes over the shoulder. I still hve to buckle the lap strap, wich I never do. do you think I will get a ticket if I don't buckle the lap strap?

The law gets money for the state and gets the foot in the door to pull over ans search more cars. They have written tons of tickets for transporting firearms as well. Illegal search and seizure is the problem. They can stop and search for observing without a seatbelt. If you had one on or not they stop and check you out. My belt comes out of the chair behind my shoulder. You can not see it from passing by. I have had two apologies in 5 months. After glancing all through my vehicle then walking back to his car.

last time i checked people involved in car accidents are more likely to avoid serious injury and death if they are buckled in.

"I don"™t believe in a government that protects us from ourselves. I have illustrated this many times by saying that I would recognize the right of government to say that someone who rode a motorcycle had to protect the public from himself by making certain provisions about his equipment and the motorcycle"“the same as we do with an automobile. I disagree completely when government says that because of the number of head injuries from accidents with motorcycles that he should be forced to wear a helmet. I happen to think he"™s stupid if he rides a motorcycle without a helmet, but that"™s one of our sacred rights"“to be stupid."

Wouldn't not wearing it raise insurance rates for everyone? If your wearing your seatbelts your injuries are usually less severe. I say if your not going to wear them then you should be charged more for insurance. people that smoke and are over weight pay more right?

You trying to tell me that a guy traveling 55 that's gets into an accident with out seatbelts will have the same injuries as a guy wearing his seatbelt?

I believe most of the the laws are economically based. Smoking is a billion dollar industry. By making it illegal to smoke, the country would loose billions of dollars each year. The seatbelt law, helmet law etc., exist because they bring in money. Look a our so called "Drug War." While the goverment spends loads on a lost cause, I believe that if they wanted to get rid of the majority of drugs they could, but it has such a large impact on the economy they won't.
