I read all 5 books this past winter and last night went to see Prisoner of Azkaban - really great stuff from the mind of JK Rowlings.
And to think all the Christians made such a fuss when Harry Potter books first came out. Great books, especially the 4th and 5th ones, young and old alike - great reading !

The Vatican approved them as stories illustrating the difference between good and evil. Harry Potter is a good guy fighting the bad. It might not reflect Christian morals, but it reflects morals in general.
I saw the third movie over the weekend and thought it was by far the worst of the three. I still liked it, but didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the first two. To much changed from the first two, to much skipped from the book. Prizoner of Azkaban is the longest of the first three books, yet the shortest movie.
Like I said, I liked it, but I seem to be one of the very few who didn't think it was the best so far.

RE: Harry Potter - fantastic !
Bob,
You're are by no means alone...though I haven't myself seen the film yet, all of the major movie critics rate this as well-below par compared to the first two.
Change of directors, older characters, older actors, new Dumbeldor...and from what I hear, both dark lighting and a dark character script.
I'll wait for the DVD, so I can watch with my 4 year old...

Well, you got to admit, with those books being that large and complex, it is hard to put them to film. Lord of the Rings left out and added much too remember.
Most critics LOVE this movie, the best of the three from all I have read. The hippogriff was very cool - almost real. There was more open scenes, more details in Hogwarts. Of course the actors are older - They're in their sophomore year and we all know theres big changes between 9th grade and 11th grade !
The darkness of the movie reflects Harry's own changes and turmoil. Book 4 and Book 5 he faces even more, and I suspect books 6 and 7 he'll be even more so.
