Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default What happened to the American dream?

I've recently been doing a little bit of traveling and I have noticed that a good portion of businesses are either owned by a coorporation, or by a guy named Patel.

Where has all of the individual American spirit of entrepreneurial enterprise gone?

Most businesses are not owned by corporations. Most are sole proprietorships and partnerships.

You know right now the American dream is alive and well, you are right in regards to the majority of the retail industry being run by major corparations, but when it comes to the service industry and maintenance industry the vast majority of it is still owned and run by individuals, not corparations.

I have a few friends that have started their own buisness and have done very well. Physical Therapy, fiber optics, construction and a bar. My wife and I started doing day care and are inthe process of expanding.Basically the whole spectrum of buisness the American Dream is alive and well.

My Father escaped the iron hand of a Dictator brought his sister and Mother with him, became a surgeon and made a very comfortable life for himself. Amercan dream is what you make of it.

What I find interesting is how many foriegners come here to the US and find the American dream through hard work and persistance while millions of Americans are crying "Where is my slice of the pie?"

To see the American dream at work, you need look no further than your own backyard. In it, there is a man with nothing more than a high school education and a lawn mower that has found a niche doing what others are either tired of doing or too busy to do...and he is prospering in the process.

vc I can see a day when a person who is willing to break a sweat for a living will make more money than those who would never dream of doing more than tickle a keyboard.

Very sad, but extremely true. I don't think the Dream left America; but America left the Dream.
