Default Tenet resigns from CIA

President Bush said Thursday that CIA director George Tenet has resigned "for personal reasons" and that his deputy will temporarily lead America's premier spy agency until a successor is found.

"He's been a strong and able leader at the agency, and I will miss him," said Bush as he was getting ready to board Marine One for a trip to Andrews Air Force Base, Md., and on to Europe.

"I send my blessings to George and his family and look forward to working with him until he leaves the agency," Bush said.

Tenet had been under fire for months in connection with intelligence failures related to the U.S.-led war against Iraq, specifically assertions the United States made about Saddam Hussein's purported possession of weapons of mass destruction, and with respect to the threat from the al-Qaida terrorist network.

Can't say I saw that coming. I expected him to stay until January, at least.

Notice how Tenet was not made a fall guy for the intelligence fiasco of 9/11? Whatever reasons he has for leaving are being kept personal. Bush could have had a lot of heat taken off his shoulders over the past few months if he had pressured Tenet to resign. He'd get some good PR now if Tenet said it was about 9/11.

I think this is another sign of good character in this administration.

I don't believe he "resigned" for personal reasons. With all the fallout Bush has taken over the past months, I think that Tenet became the whipping boy and the example.

Hmmm.....Dubya consults an attorney about the upcoming questioning on the leak of Valerie Plame's idenity as a CIA operative & wife of congressman skeptical about the purported "Yellow cake uranium" story.....
Mr. Tenet resigns for personal reasons...just a coincidence? Hmmm...I wonder. I wonder if it'll soon be considered unpatriotic to wonder too?

So Tenet was O.K. as long as he worked for a democrat, but now that he works for a republican he is just another dirtbag? Valerie Plame was about as much a CIA "Operative" as I am. Wake up and smell the coffee.
