Another Satisfied Taxpayer
To: Internal Revenue Service
Department of the Treasury
Washington, DC 20001
Enclosed is my 2003 Form 1040, together with payment.
I have recently taken notice of an article from the USA Today archives.
In the article, it is stated that the Pentagon paid $171.50 each for hammers and NASA paid $600.00 each for toilet seats.
Please find enclosed in this package four toilet seats (value
$2,400.00) and six hammers (value $1,029.00). This is in payment for my total tax due of $3,429.00.
Out of a sense of patriotic duty, and to assist in the political
purification of our government, I am also enclosing a 1.5 inch Phillips
head screw, for which HUD duly recorded and approved a purchase value of $22.00, as my contribution to fulfill the Presidential Election Fund option on Form 1040.
It has been a pleasure to pay my taxes this year, and I look forward
To paying them again next year in accordance with officially established government values.
Sincerely,
Another satisfied taxpayer

It's funny, but I bet if you sent them toilet seats they'd be after your arse too!

On a similar note that will make you want to wretch,,,,,
Both the Bush and Kerry campaigns will get $75 million each for the presidential campaign this year.
These are taxpayer funds of course. This has gone on for years and boils my blood each time I hear it. This is a criminal use of our money which piles insult onto injury.
My general feeling is this with the current state of politics. I have never given one dime to any political party and never will. The 2 major parties will do as they damn well please when elected and won't represent my views regardless of any campaign contribution I may or may not give.
I would take much greater pleasure from lighting a $20 bill on fire and watching it burn to ashes than giving it to the Democrat/Republican party.[:@][&:]
Ifferd:
Neither Bush or Kerry are accepting matching funds. They ARE required by the new legislation passed last year to limit campaign expenditures though. But they aren't using your money (unless you contributed to one of them). So don't burn your dern twenty. I understand your frustration, just get it the facts lined up.
And regarding your view that both parties will do as they please, that's bull. If you don't like the representation you can do something about it every 2, 4 and six years. This is a representative republic, not true democracy. You vote people into office because their views and convictions most closely match yours not because you want someone to take a poll of their constituents every time a vote comes up.
Wouldn't it be great one day for a non Democrat/Republican to get elected ? Can you imagine the havoc a Ross Perot or someone like that would create ?
Gosh it'd be great.
I can imagine his campaign ad now: "That giant sucking sound is your tax dollars being funneled into my opponents' campaign funds! Elect me and my ears for four years!"

Yeah, that would be great. That would be an interesting situation. Minnesota went through it with Jesse "The Body" Ventura.
I think it's that so many of these politicians stay around for so long that that are corrupted by the power of their positions. To hold the power, they need money. It's ugly, but what do you do to fix it?
