Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default More blatant misinformation from the media

JSO To Be Armed With Automatic Weapons, Tasers

The reporter uses the term "automatic weapons"; who wants to guess what he/she really meant?

Yep, if the idiots that are reporting this stuff can't get their facts straight they shouldn't be able to keep their job. Suspend them and force them to read the dictionary before they are allowed to come back to work.

Then we wouldn't have enough reporters to fill the TV stations. Wouldn't that be a wonderful day.

Quote:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Sheriff's officers say the city's criminals are so heavily armed that they must intensify their own defenses.

Eyewitness News has learned that every officer will now have access to a semi-automatic AR-15 and will be armed with a taser.

Such weapons are generally found in the military, and not on the streets. But police site several recent crimes that have made them reconsider their own protection.

Police cite the chilling image of a gunman pointing an automatic weapon at a woman during a recent bank robbery, and Clay County deputies say a mass murder suspect used a semi-automatic weapon to kill four people over the weekend.

Officers said the new weapons put them on a "level playing ground" with criminals, improving officer safety and public security.

Police said the new semi-automatic rifle was chosen for several reasons, including the fact that it holds more rounds, is more accurate in long-distance shooting, and is less penetrating, so someone standing behind a suspect would be less likely to be injured.

In addition to the rifle, every patrol officer will also have a taser gun. Police say it's painful, but not deadly.

The weapons will be paid for with $1.8 million from the mayor's Public Safety Initiative. The purchase is set for some time after the city's budget comes out in October.

Yep, every soldier carries a taser and the same exact gun these officers will use Whoever wrote this isn't to smart. The AR-15 looks like the military m-16 and m-4, but thats just looks. The AWB is also based a lot on the "looks" of a gun too. [&o]

I dunno, an idiot reporterette that worked for the CBS affiliate here in SA still holds the record for idiot firearms statements, IMO. A BG shot and killed a LEO working for one of the small suburbs, and fled the scene. He was tracked down to his home, and arrested without incident. The reporterette breathlessly described the fearsome weapon the BG had in his home... " a semiautomatic weapon, and almost 50 rounds of ammunition!" The firearm was a Raven .25 auto, with a box of cartridges.

I always wanted to show one of these reporters what a battlepack or crate of ammo looks like, then show them several, just to see the looks on their faces.
