I live in Illinois currently and moved here from Indiana. When I was out of ammo for the 12ga. I went to WalMart to buy shells. It was my first purchase of ammo since moving to this state. I ask for a couple boxes of slugs and 00 buck. The lady behind the counter asks to see my FOID card. I said I just wanted ammo and what the heck is a FOID card. She tells me she is not allowed to sell me ammo or even let me look at the ammo without having the card. I had never heard of such a thing and stood there dumbfounded for a while. She goes on to tell me I can not even own the guns in the state without that card. I could not shotgun hunt, drive with the guns in my car or own them without this card. If caught with guns and no card it is a huge deal and will end up in jail time and loss of guns confiscated. I did not get the card for about 1 year. I drove 40 miles to Iowa and bought all I wanted there without a stray look. I eventually bought the card because I acquired property to hunt Turkey and deer on and wanted to use firearms to do so. Once I received the card giving me the right to the second amendment again I go to buy another .22 ruger and they still call you in to the state for a background check and approval. My 2nd amendment cost me $5 dollars for a Firearms card so I can legally own guns. This state sucks, has sucked and will continue to suck as long as all politicians are alive. Indiana had the best laws next to Arizona and Texas. Illinois does not even honor right to pass concealed hand gun laws. Stay out of this America and God forsaken state!

I have lived in Illinois all my life, I have had a foid card ever since I started hunting, about 18 years, and it has never been a major problem for me. I dont see a problem with waiting 3 days for a handgun purchase or 24 hours for a long gun purchase.
I personally take offense to your remarks about the state of Illinois. If you truly feel this way about our state, please do stay out.
I dont see a problem with waiting 3 days for a handgun purchase or 24 hours for a long gun purchase.
Well t roy i do see a problem with that when our tax dollars are going to maintain a insta check system so that good citizens like us can get our gun on the spot.
I am no criminal and gave away some 13+ years to public service to our country . I have earned the right even though i was born with the right to buy and bear arms. and when i want to buy a gun i want to take it with my free american a** then!
The right to bear arms wasn't given by the state of illinois it was given by the United State of America .
14 merc calling your background check in is not illinois making that law it's federal. the only way they don't have to is if you have a concealed carry permit from your state or you are a dealer.
Well t roy i do see a problem with that when our tax dollars are going to maintain a insta check system so that good citizens like us can get our gun on the spot.
I am not aware of any instacheck system where good citizens get their gun on the spot.
You're right, law abiding citizens do have the right to bear arms it is granted by the US constitution. however the state of Illinois is simply trying to prevent unlawful citizens from buying arms, unfortunately we law abiding citizens are put out of $5 every 5 years and 1-3 dys on every firearms purchase. I can live with that.
That's ok 14mercs ,
Indiana will always let you come home and buy all of the guns and ammo you want . We'll also let you hunt your buck in peace without drawing for the priveledge like a non-resident even though you own the deer . We don't care if you buy a handgun , only the Feds do . Yes , you'll still need a background check , and you might have to wait a short time for a hand gun , but that's the Feds again .
You'll also welcome the familiar notion of just asking for permission to hunt instead of paying outrageous fees to a leasing broker , but you can lease here too if you really want to . I don't know about where you are now , but Indiana honors ALL out-of-state CCW permits . We also have far fewer hunters to compete with . Come back home anytime you want . You know you want to .
I've been to Illinois several times , and it's a very pretty state . Kinda reminds me of home , without the guns ... Never understood how y'all rolled over on gun owner registration T Roy , but if you're happy with it then enjoy it .

Ahem ,
cough , Indiana , cough , cough ... Excluding hand guns of course . I've recently purchased long guns at Wally World , and took them home the same day . If it weren't for their stultifying paperwork I might buy one on the way home .

Tell me T Roy , how many of your non-law abiding citzens who use guns apply for a FOID card each year ? Do they undergo a background check like you too ? Is their CCW card accepted in other states ? Wait , y'all don't have CCW there , do you ? It isn't about the $5 T Roy , it's all about keeping what the Constitution says is yours to begin with . I like Illinois , but I could never live in such a socialist environment . Indiana has it's faults too , but I can buy guns without a card or looking over my shoulder .

t roy the brady flop bill had provisions in it to create a instant background system. A dealer only has to call the 800 number and give the information to the person at the batf. they will either allow you to proceed with the sale , delay it or deny the sale. if they say proceed they will give the dealer a transaction number and the person buying the gun may leave then with the firearm.
If they delay they have three days to contact the dealer as to the status of the transaction. on the fourth day if the dealer hasn't been contacted they may sale the gun without any possible recourse from the batf.
if they deny the sale the person being checked can contact them as to why the sale was denied .
this system took the three day waiting period and made it null and void for us law abiding folks.
and t roy this law abiding citizen in arkansas doesnt pay $5 or wait three days for my state to say i can get the gun. i wait oh about............5 minutes.
And really t roy do you believe the liberal bull crap that all the waiting periods and checks stop criminals from getting guns?
thugs aren't going to pay what you and i pay for our guns. no they are going steal guns from folks like us. and resale them to other thugs.
Please t roy if you really love your state do everything in your power to BOOT the liberals out . what will they think of next ........... a sex card so that you may have the permission of illinois to have relations with your wife?and what do you think that would cost?
And hey my state produced one the biggest POS liberals but you see where he lives now!
Illinois has some really great areas of beauty, but their draconian gun laws really turn me off. I would rather pass a big promotion or job offer than move to a state that treats gun owners worse than criminals. I'll stay here in Virginia, where I can take home any handgun or long gun the same day, buy all the ammo I please, and carry concealed with a permit or open without one.
to the both of yous guys, the foid card was around before I started hunting when i was 13 or 14 so i have never known it any other way.
i can buy a longgun on the spot also at a gun show, although i believe they are going to pass legislation (it may already be law) to make this illegal.
i understand how some of these laws are viewed as intoduction laws which lead to more control, none of which i support.
kevin, please accept all of the pay hunters and outfitters in the state of illinois also, they are a pain in the arse and 90% of them dont have a clue as to what hunting is all about. I was fortunate to be raised on a farm in one of the best whitetail hnting areas on earth and i have introduced many of my friends to hunting for free. I can't stand all these farkin bastages who charge $2k a week to hunt or the idiots who pay up to do it. so please take them all they wont be missed.
as far as tag draws go, i get 3 tags a year of my choice. the only way you arent basically guaranteed a tag is if you lollygag around until late summer or early fall before you submit your application.
not to pick a fight but i cant stand it when someone insults where I am from.
And really t roy do you believe the liberal bull crap that all the waiting periods and checks stop criminals from getting guns?
i realize that our system doesnt prevent a criminal from stealing or buying a gun off the street, but at least it makes it a little more difficult than stopping by the local walmart or gun shop on the way home.
