Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Dear Jerry Seinfeld,

Here is an example of the letter:

October 30, 2003

Jerry Seinfeld
Shapira/West Associates
141 El Camino Drive, #205
Beverly Hills, 90212

Dear Jerry Seinfeld,

As I scanned the pages of the New York Times this morning, I couldn"t help but notice the new ads taken out by the Brady Campaign and the Million Mom March to stop the NRA"s assaults on mainstream American values. As you may know, the latest of these attacks features a blacklist with your name on it.

Though it is not surprising that the NRA would publicly advertise a 19-page list of individuals, celebrities, authors, religious organizations, and businesses it describes as "anti-gun," it certainly is infuriating. The NRA"s blacklist is the modern day equivalent of Richard Nixon"s enemies list. This blacklist is precisely the politics of division and distortion that have turned too many people away from participating in the process. We can"t let the NRA scare people into silence.

I know what it"s like to be targeted by the NRA, and I refuse to sit idly by during my campaign for the presidency while they push their divisive agenda on America and slander those who stand up for gun safety.

Why should those on the NRA blacklist courageously risk their livelihoods when Democratic candidates for President aren"t willing to stand up against powerful interests and risk their political capital? I believe that standing up for gun safety is important, and I refuse to be a candidate who retreats from the issue out of political fear or one who tries to have it both ways. I"m a hunter and a gun owner, but I"ve never gone hunting with an AK-47. I"ll stand up to the NRA when they call law enforcement officers "jackbooted thugs" or stand in the way of common sense efforts to keep the most dangerous weapons out of the hands of felons and children. The Democratic Party will never be the choice of the NRA"and I"m not looking to be the candidate of the NRA.

We can stand up for safety in America and keep guns out of the hands of children and felons and still respect the Second Amendment of our nation"and if the NRA wants to blacklist us for that position, then I am ready to wear it as a badge of honor.

If you share my feelings, I ask you to join me in my campaign for the presidency, as I stand up for the values we hold dear, and a politics that elevates"not denigrates"the public discourse in America.

Warm Regards,

John Kerry

Sadly, this is an argument that too many gun owners buy into! They are being duped into turning on their fellow gun owners, not realizing that it is just an Anti's ploy to get all the guns! Including Gramp's old single shot!

About the only thing J F'ing Kerry has ever hunted was a rich woman!

i just don't get it, why does someone have a need to have a fully automatic weapon? are people paranoid enough that they don't feel safe in their homes with or without semi-automatic weapons? and i would put money on it that america will never see the day when people "come after your guns". sounds like typical paranoia to me.

pointerDixie214,

The NRA does not support the private use of fully automatic weapons. They do support the use of semi-automatics for private use. Besides I believe there has not been a crime committed by a LEGALLY OWNED fully automatic weapon in many, many years.

I believe that you are simply wrong about the gov't "coming after your guns".

That day would have already been here if it were not for the NRA and other organizations.

Pointerdixie214,
Full autos have been illegal (except with a very expensive permit) since the 1930's!
I will admit that in the millions of crimes commited in the last few years, ONE has been commited with fully automatic weapons! These were illegally owned guns! I'm sure these bank robbing criminals, just forgot to get a permit for them, or they just did not know that they were illegal guns! Else I'm sure they would have done the right thing and turned them in!
I also see that you are another dreamer! The Second Amendment has been under attack for many years! The only thing standing between the Second Amendment and outright gun bans, is the NRA and other gun and hunting organizations!! The very group that you thumb your nose at, is the one that is safeguarding your freedom!
I guess the gun owners in Canada, England, and Austrailia were not paranoid enough

Kevin, you bring up some very good points!
There are ONLY two reasons that a politian would be FOR gun bans! One, would be the noble, but stupid reason, of crime prevention!
Anyone with the brain of an amoeba, could look at the crime statistics of the nations that have banned guns, and see that bans clearly DO NOT prevent crime!
This being a proven fact, what on earth could be the only other reason to ban guns?
Kevin has it right, TOTALITARIANISM!
When the Second Amendment dies, so does the freedom of speech, and the freedom of the people as a whole!
Paranoia? I think not! Our forefathers KNEW oppression! That is why our Constitution is written the way it is!
