Bill Cosby: Blacks can't speak English
NAACP leaders stunned by remarks of prominent comedian

In the presence of NAACP President Kweisi Mfume and other African-American leaders, comedian Bill Cosby took aim at blacks who don't take responsibility for their economic status, blame police for incarcerations and teach their kids poor speaking habits.
Cosby made his remarks at a Constitution Hall event in Washington Monday night commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Brown vs. Board of Education decision that paved the way for integrated schools, reported Richard Leiby in his Reliable Source column for the Washington Post.
Leiby said Cosby's remarks were met with "astonishment, laughter and applause."
When Cosby finally concluded, Leiby said, Mfume, Howard University President H. Patrick Swygert and NAACP legal defense fund head Theodore Shaw came to the podium looking "stone-faced."
Shaw told the crowd most people on welfare are not African American. He insisted many of the problems his organization addresses among blacks are not self-inflicted.
Cosby said, according to Leiby: "Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids " $500 sneakers for what? And won't spend $200 for 'Hooked on Phonics.'
He added: "They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk: 'Why you ain't,' 'Where you is' ... And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk. And then I heard the father talk. ... Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. ... You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth!"
The Post said Cosby also targeted imprisoned blacks.
"These are not political criminals," he said. "These are people going around stealing Coca-Cola. People getting shot in the back of the head over a piece of pound cake and then we run out and we are outraged, [saying] 'The cops shouldn't have shot him.' What the hell was he doing with the pound cake in his hand?"

I have to admit that I'm truly surprised .
I always figured Dollar Bill for a liberal like most so called intellectuals . To do that in the presence of so many influential black leaders took some big round hairy ones to say the least . I just may start watching those old Fat Albert reruns again !

Its weird, when I think of Bill Cosby, I never think of the word Black or African American. He reminds me of someone who I would want as my neighbor. The guy has always been a wholesome entertainer and a no-nonsense type of guy.
I can't for the life of me say the same thing about Mfume.

Obamanfreude - 1. taking pleasure from the misfortunes of an Obama supporter as he or she is adversely affected by the policies of their Dear Leader.
I have always had the utmost respect for Cosby as a comedian, he has always been one of the few that when he came on TV you had to have the kids leave the room or change the channel.
What he said is telling it like it is and the NAACP doesn't like to hear things like that.
My respect for Cosby has gone up another notch.

I'm glad to see Bill Cosby take a stand, if you read into what he says, it should be a message to all youth........not just black. I can't stand to see young white kids, latin, spanish, or what ever give up their own heritage to attempt to be "black".
I wonder if Cosby isn't saying this out of a little guilt. Remembering the Fat Albert cartoon, anyone remember Mush Mouth. "Oba Kba Manba".

I think he probably is a liberal, he just has the guts to speak out on this issue. I could imagine Dr. MLK saying the same thing if he were alive, and I think he would still be a liberal.

Bill Cosby is a Phy. Ed. major who went on to be a comedian. Cliff Huxtable was the doctor. That's like admiring Mary Richards. He has no more clout than does George Carlin, and we all know what happened when he opened his mouth and spouted some liberal social commentary. Everyone said, "Who the hell is George Carlin?" "He should keep his mouth shut."
Just because Bill Cosby says something we agree with, it's suddenly okay?
