Dah, excuse me????
Im still going to consume the same amount of petro over the same period of time so when I purchase it, it will only effect me. If I wait to the 20th to buy gas, maybe they, the evil gas controllers will have figured that out and raise the prices after the 19th because the need will still be there. Then they will have more money and pieces of gold to dabble with for our souls with the devil in the pale moon light.
Want to have an effect? buy a vehicle to reduce your consumption, drive less, share a ride or do something else real that causes you to use less gas.
Myself, Im going to live with it and continue to drive what I drive, where I want to drive and not whine about it. I choose to have the vehicles I have, go the places I want to go in the way I want to get there. If that means I have to pay more, I will. If it gets to the point that it is to expensive, I'll find a way to adjust my life style to pay for what I think is the most important thing at that time.
What's beer going for a gallon, or how about Starbucks coffee, a diet Coke or Pesi at Dirty Mcs evil gold arches???
What does your internet hook up cost you a month? All thngs we can live without

Good Idea. It would be nice if everyone could afford to say the hell with it and pay whatever they ask. I can't. Fixed income. I have cancelled a couple trips for this years so far and will have to forget a few more before its over. Its all price fixing and lack of competition.

RE: Don't buy gas May 19
O.K. - - this may not be a popular opinion - - - but not buying on May 19th only means we gotta buy it some time sooner or later - - before the 19th if we're getting low so we'll make it throught the next few days - - or a few days after if we have enough. Unfortunately, unlike with a lot of products - - most of us just don't have the option on gas unless we're gonna take up bicycles. Gas is up because our freakin' Saudi 'allies' are sticking it to us, the Chinese are gobbling lots more than ever before, we use a lot of the stuff (45% of world production), we haven't built a new refinery in this country in decades, & the environmentalists won't let us drill for it & force all kinds of regulations on the various forumulations needed in each local region. In addition there are the recent terrorist attacks in Saudi which has got people nervous & bumped up the price on the markets. On top of that the busy summer season is coming up. - - So gas is going up even higher. - - - Hopefully, the price will come down in a few months though. - - - Bottom Line - - not buying on the 19th by a few folks ain't gonna be a blip on the radar screen. - - - Now if we were really serious we'd move all those troops sitting around in Germany protecting those chicken-sh*t leftist Europeans & contributing to their economy - - - and go capture the d*mned Saudi oilfields and be done with it ! There are a lot of heavy Abrahms tanks just sitting in Octoberfest land- - they sure didn't use them to smash the terrorists in Fallujah like they said they were going to. - - - -
I posted the same E-Mail in the off season forum.Let's just say That I do not think it was warmly recieved. It might not be the best idea in the world ,But at least somebody is trying to come up with something.

For all the pessimists.
At least you try something instead of saying its not going to do anything.
Man, I thought most would jump right on the wagon.
Over 3 million others think its worth a try.
As far as the vehicle thing, we have aready made changes.
My wife went from a Van to a 4 cylinder car.
My children ride together and pick another one up along the way.
That drops 2 cars and a gas guzzler.
No extra trips to town, hell we ain't even turned on the Air conditioner yet and its been close to 90's here.
Thinking about buying a bunch of goats just to keep from cutting the grass.
At least I'm trying something instead of just saying
IT AIN'T GOING TO DO ANY GOOD.
How do you know 100% that it won't make some kind of impact?
I've also heard that some of the trucking company's are going to fall in and stop the trucks for 48 hrs. I remember when they done that before, it sure made an impact later, didn't it? we sure saw the effects here.
Its worth a try.

I'll chip in , I won't buy any gas until Thursday . I just filled my tank this morning , so it won't hurt me to wait one more day .
First Bow ,
most of the reason that you're getting pessimistic responses is because folks suspect that Big P already knows our pumping habits . Cutting them off for one day won't hurt them a bit because of this . They know that we'll have to tank up again soon . The only way to affect them is to reduce your usage over the long term and they know it . Short of a national referendum to cut the price we have no realistic defense other than that .

Boycott one company for a week, then a different company. We know we use the same amount of fuel every week, and will continue to to so. But making a major swing in purchasing habits will disrupt the equilibrium betweem supply flow and demand flow. It will drain the other companies local supply sooner too. Then we will have to patronize the one with the extra supply. The first boycotted company would want to raise prices, but what has stopped them yet. At least this way they have a little hardship to go along with their extra profits. A message needs to hit home that consumers have a choice.
Ultimately, I want to use all the oil up and get on with the next energy source. It will be interesting when the GM and Ford CEOs play golf with the Oil company CEOs and twists an arm because the demand for high profit trucks has dropped off. That is when the rubber hits the pavement.
