Recently a guy I know was hired where I work. He told me he was afraid he might not pass the pre-employment drug screening because he said he smokes a little weed, but he did. After being on the job for one week, my company retested the new hires, he refused and was fired. The rest passed, but its clear he knew he would not pass the 2nd time.
I've heard of several people not able to pass the test after the usual probation period, when some employers require retesting. Are people that stupid? They certainly need the job..well maybe not. Just makes little sense.
RE: Fooled him.......heard lots of people get fooled
did they know that there would be a second test after he was hired?
I work in the construction industry so alot of companies do drug screening. I know a few guys that have cheated to pass, and a few that didnt' smoke for a month before the test so that they would pass. All of them resumed smoking bud once they got hired. I've never heard of a company retesting unless there was some type of workplace accident.
I've had people tell me that I should start to drug screen employees that I hire, but personally I could care less what people do on thier "off" time. I would like to think that I can spot someone who is stoned at work, it's not that hard. I can deal with them at that point.

No.
Some employers do retest after the normal 60-120 day probation period. I've personally never witnessed anybody stoned at anywhere that I have worked, although I knew a few of them talked of smoking it in their offtime.

I've never smoked weed, nor do I plan to. I just want to know what is so great about it that it's worth losing a job over? You know it's against your employers rules but you still gamble with your job just to smoke a little pot? I just don't understand that. I say play by the rules or find another job where the rules are different.

Big Brother in the workplace? Come on Stealthy, you don't even want them in our schools.
This has nothing to do with Big Brother ie: the government. This has to do with civilian employers excercising one of the few rights on who to hire/fire they have left.

Stealthy, One problem the guy might have smoked it on friday night got tested and fired for something he did on his own time, that didn't effect his job.

Legalize it and then there isn't an issue, is there ?
Uh ... except for the employers who have workers on shift that are high as a kite
Silly argument just because it's legal doesn't mean people will smoke it on the job. It's illegal now, and people can get as much as they want.

So many keeping it ILLEGAL and firing the sorry SOB's is the way to go ? Yes, yes, I like that solution much better than the first
I wonder how many people would get fired for drinking off the job if it broke down in the body as THC does. Just because someone comes up positive doesn't mean their stoned or they just smoked. Personal responsibility it's not their buisness. If I get high on the weekend/at night and do my job the next day what buisness is it of my employer?
Feeding an alligator with your kid in your arms is allright but, a person shouldn't be able to do what they want on their own time?

What about Crystal Meth? That stuff can string you out for a few days. Do it on Saturday night and you may still be having some side effects on Monday while driving a fork lift.

If there is a reason to test a person ie: Job performance ,accident, pattern of missing days etc, fine. If you come in to work stoned or strung out, then it's your employers buisness.
If a person is doing their job, who cares what they do off the clock.
