I am not suprised at all I used to live in Georgia and you do not want to mess with the GSP. The OJ chase would have ended in probably less than 30 minutes in Ga.

The VSP started carrying the Bushmaster semi-auto M-4's a year or two ago, I believe. Now I still don't know why every trooper would need one, but I guess it's best to be prepared for anything.

I fully support state troopers being just as heavily armed as possible. Most times these guys are operating in remote areas with no back up. For awhile it was policy for the GSP to patrol two to a car. After pulling someone over the second trooper covered the vehicle with the aformention 12ga. while the first trooper aproached. This was in response to several troopers being killed in vehicle stops.

I can tell you this, several local are GSP and they come to shoot on my range out back of my house. And I would not want to be on the receiving end of any gun fight with any GSP! They dont play around!

GSP also has the best shotgun carry rig, Ive ever seen. In fact Im making one for my S10 pick up. Barrel down just behind the seatbelt post. When getting out you dont even have to look for it! Bang, its right there and ready when needed.


In Augusta, Richmond Co. Sheriff's Dept. is where my brother works, they carry AR's in their cars.
Some special trained Burke Co. Sheriff deputies carry AR's, or at least some of them use to.

It wasn't until after they began to look more military that they re-gained mine. I remember in NYC some officers looked as if they had been dressing themselves from the Goodwill clothes bin and their weapons looked as if they had not been cared for in years. Once they began to take some pride in their appearance, they started to regain a lot of the respect they had lost.
There are still some officers here in the South that look as if the Sheriff decided it was cheaper to pay them by the pound (two deputies for the cost of one) than as individuals, but the same can not be said for the GSP. As for carrying a Bushmaster rifle, if they renamed it the Fuzzy Wuzzy, it would still shoot the same but maybe some people wouldn't be as paranoid about it.
