Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default What is going on with the NRA

I have been a member for over 15 years. I think they have done a bang up job. But here recently, I don't know what has gotten into them. They seem to want to start being a business instead of an organization.

Over the weekend, they call my house, and want me to pledge 99 dollars for putting Wayne's book in local libraries. I tell the guy that I just got laid off, and can't help. But his guy was pushy. He tried to tell me only 15% of NRA is employed. At this point, I know he is lying and just some company that the NRA hired to push the book. Number one, how do they know that statistic? Number two, I don't buy the fact that the NRA membership is is only 15% employed. He got very loud with me, and pushed harder. I said listen, I don't want to cancel my membership, but I don't like to be pushed. He said thats my choice not his. I was flabbergasted.

Then I recieve this video, history of guns and bronze asking for 9 dollars. I hate to know how much of our dues are being spent on this. I say keep up the fight we have them there for. Not to make shirts, videos, or productize things.

[:@]They havent called me yet. If they keep calling people, with the attitude you discribed, i can see it becoming counter productive. I dont know who you would complain to, but it seems some phone calls/letters/emails might be in order. I hate to see an organization like NRA start playing the money game. [:@]

I think their going $100,000,000 over budget might have something to do with it. They've been begging me for money, as well. Whenever they send me a gun owner's survey with a request for more contributions, I check 'Other Amount' and put $0.00 down. I pay my yearly dues, and if I want to give more, I'll do so then.

Basically, the NRA has gotten so big and unwieldy that often the right hand is unaware of the left hand's activities!! For example, I have been a member since 1954, and a life member since 1982. Yet they still call me and write me letters trying to get me to join up!!

I have been a junior lifetime member ever since my dad caught me reading his american hunter magazines at age 4. I would have to agree with the point that they are getting less and less effective. I believe that they were more effective when Charleton Heston was the president of the organization.

You mean last year? Come on guys, the NRA is the best we've got. If anyone can give me a better choice with as much clout I'll be happy to sign up. Go to NRANEWS.com All you hunters will be glad to know that they are going to start defending HUNTERS RIGHTS with as much vigor as the Second and First Amendment battles they've been waging. I don't want to sound ungrateful that you guys are members and life members complaining about the effectiveness of the NRA or their solicitations for money, but if they don't ask your not going to automatically send in a donation. You see most hunters and shooters don't normally put any of their hard earned dollars into this fight, they figure 35.00 a year is enough. The NRA has a little over 4 million members and there are 80 million gun owners owning approximately 265 million guns. You do the math! 76 million gun owners are riding on the backs of you and me.

There is no better choice you are entirely correct fight4. I feel that the organization was run better by Heston. It might just be that we need to give this administration more time. Time will tell.

I mean guys, it is our organization. We are a member and have a say how it is ran. At least I think we do. I am going to start calling them and seeing what I can do. Elde, is right, I get mail all the time getting me to join? why? Why waste the postage. Why waste alot of money sending out video tapes, and bronze coins. I can see the book aspect. The research helps our fight. But the rest I don't get.

I think if you do a little checking Heston never ran the day to day operations of the NRA. He was just a well known name to put up front. Wayne the Dehydrated Frenchman has been in control for years.
