do a lot of EBAY, and buying and selling through classifieds etc. Its very rare I have a problem of any kind, but I am involved in a dispute right now and want to heads up everyone on a couple of items.
My situation is I sold 3 auctions of books on EBAY, and the buyer wanted to combine shipping. He also wanted to send media mail and no delivery confirmation or insurance. Total ammount was approx $25 per auction. I agreed, and he paid with Paypal. I sent the books (his address was unconfirmed but he had like 1200 buys) in one box and that was that.
My bad luck, the box of books were lost. He sent very rude and demanding emails the longer the books were lost and finally filed Pyapl complaints saying they did not arrive. As the emails and his rudeness progressed, I became less and less likely to find a mutal resolution.
The books finally showed up at his house, but he claims the box was damaged and a few books missing. He drops one claim but leaves the other and wants me to pay him for the missing books. Thats ironic to me, that he didn't believe I sent him the books, but wants me to believe when he got them there were some missing. I didn't pay him and he left the claim and Paypal filed in his favor.
Now, the important part I want ya'll to hear.
NEVER send or buy without delivery confirmation and if its over $100 make is signature confirmation. ALWAYS, without fail. Paypal will never back the seller without that.
NEVER send to a non-confirmed address using Pyapl payment. Never. Seller takes the chance of forfeiting Seller Protection by doing so.
Never send mutiple auctions together without a Paypal payment specifically requesting you do so.
Emails from buyers are NEVER proof of anything unless its a direct email - no forwards, copy's and pastes or anything like that.
After the Paypal ruling in his favor I contacted all the EBAYers that had problems with him (through neg feedback) and 12-15 people responded by saying he pulled the same crap with them, the same way. They all caved in and gave him money etc to keep from getting negative feedback. I didn't. I filed my appeal and have followed up with a lot of emails proving that he did in fact recieve the box of books. The latest was his negative feedback to me tonight, in which he said yes, he got the books but was #1 poorly packaged, #2 bad seller (me) and #3 recieved some of the books but not all of them.
I dont know that Paypal will reverse the decision or not basd on the proof that his claim was for items not recieved, not items recieved but damaged. One of his emails asked if I wanted to challenge him or not ... and thats what I'm doing. Had he been easier to deal with I'd have reimbursed him for the missing books and it'd have been a done deal. A smarter person might have anyway
Ya'll just remember to NEVER send without delivery or signature confirmation, EVER ! I have like 460 EBAY buys/sells and I've bought/sold/trade to a lot of guys on our favorite classifieds sites and still got suckered. My policy has now changed and it'll cost everyone more money, but it'll be almost bombproof when I send an item or pay for one to be sent to me.
