I saw a news article not too long ago about some group trying to push this through - all sex related sites would end in .xxx. I can't remember the group, but I do recall the porn industry yelping about this because it would cost too much money or some thing.

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.
If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a civilization, it expects what never was and what never will be.
The only reason that it would cost them money is because they would lose the traffic when people type in a url that you would think would go somewhere else instead of their site... example of this would be www.whitehouse.com - I don't know if it still is, but at one time if you did .com vs .gov it took you to a porn site. I think they should institutionalize the .xxx and tell em' live with it, and fine em' big time for URL .com fakes. Really, what freakin' harm - the people who visit those sites aren't going to mind .xxx plus, for businesses that don't want their employees viewing that crap on company time they could ban all .xxx
I think the real fear is they will lose business because if you type .xxx, you darn well know what you will be going to.
It wouldn't be as easy and inexpensive as it might seem.
On the one hand, setting up a .xxx registry would be relatively easy and inexpensive to do. But who's going to manage it? Are you going to require the porn sites to come together and foot the bill? There is a lot of money in Internet porn, but 95 percent of it is probably controlled by 5 percent of the people. Porn addicts will tell you that you find the same materials on all the sites... generally speaking, of course. Most people operating those sites make little or no $$$. Requiring them to set up a directory would drive a lot of them out of business.... Which is fine if that is the ultimate goal.
The other option is to put it under the control of InterNIC, which controls all domain names and which, frankly, is the only way I see it can be done. That would prove to cost the porn businesses little money... all it would cost is the $$$ to rent their domain names, which cost about $12 each per year, roughly.
But it will never happen because the powers who sell the domain names would lose money... Porn sites (and many sites of other genres, for that matter) typically register many different domains. For example, you might see freshnekkedbodies.com, freshnekkedbodies.net and freshnekkedbodies.us all go to one site. Under the proposed setup, freshnekkedbodies could only register one domain: freshnekkedbodies.xxx. So whoever they purchase their domain hosting from, instead of that company getting $36 per year from that client, they're only getting $12. Therefore, they would never go for it.
But I don't see a problem with it. . . and you guys are right. . . It would be very easy for parents, companies, etc. etc. to block those addresses.
Of course another question arises: Who polices this to make sure that the porn sites are not registering .com domains to point to their sites???

This will never happen untill there is a one world government.
I would rather have my kids stumble onto a porn sight than have our rights and liberties squashed under the jack-boots of a centralized world government.
