Why do people dispute religion.
This is not intended to start a fight, but I have seen here on numerous
occasions, how a persons belief system is attracted.
Im a Christian, so Ill take this point of view;
The Christian faith, on the most part, preaches nothing but good. If
everyone followed Jesus's teachings, wouldn"™t it be a better world ? Yet the belief has been trashed. Same thing can be said for other religions. I
understand the hypocrisy that can be found in any religion, Im speaking of
those who attack others solely on there beliefs. I guess my question is,
What is the problem? What is so scary about being religious? I for one
have never tried to push my beliefs on others, Im a fond believer of lead by example. I let my belief be know, but have never condemned others of
theirs. Yet I see condemnation on a daily basis.
Just looking for honest answers, not trying to start controversy.

It seems pretty simple to me. Generally people bash a religion when they disagree personally with that particular faith's tenets. I think individual philosophy is the deciding factor. We must remember that the most important belief system a person has is the one he/she subscribes to. Some disagree with the rest more strongly than others.
I don't really see much of a difference between any one religion. They all pretty much have codes of morals, ethics, and/or laws. Some include a deity, and some don't. Almost all are rooted in cultural history and literature. The vast majority (at least in the Western World) are based on blind faith. So again, people simply disagree based on a personal view of mankind, our origin, and our destination.
In my opinion only....The Bible, the Koran or any holy book can rid people of thinking. They don't need to form their own opinions because the bible has already made a choice for them. If the bible says being gay is wrong then that individual person will believe that being gay is wrong. Individual thought and research is null and void.
I also believe any all religions have their fanatics/ fundimentalists. Christians, Muslims, Jews, all have their ecentrics who take the word of their particualar "God" to extreme. This is where you start to hear the "hate" speaches that are supposidly for God.
Burnie ,
you and I have similar values to a degree , we seem to differ only that you're Christian and I'm Atheist . Other than that we seem to value the same things and lead by example . Like you I don't denigrate anyone else's belief system or push mine .
Afraid of being religious ? Hardly , I think it's a fine thing for someone who feels that they need guidance in their lives , answers to their unanswerable questions . I simply don't feel the need for outside influence to determine my course of action through life . Like many of my fellows I also don't look at the Bible as proof of the existance of an all knowing everlasting deity , it was written in the hand of highly fallible and very superstitious humans thousands of years ago . It is an excellent book of guidelines to me , but little more . I view it as no greater or lesser than any of the other great religious works .
If a person feels the need of a guiding hand , be it religion , science , or even Alchoholics Anonymous then more power to them and I hope they find what they seek . Religion is simply not the medium for me to get my answers .

The only time I bash a faith is when they hijack our planes and crash them into skyscrapers killing thousands of Americans and all in the name of their religion.
The Koran teaches them that we are the infidal and must either be converted or killed.....
I don't fear being religious, but I do fear some religious people.
It would be nice to have faith, but I don't. That doesn't mean that I'm cruel, that I lie and cheat, that I don't live by my conscience(sp).
I think the thing that really got me questioning religion is the fact that most people don't decide to follow one, they believe what their parents believe by default. Muslims have muslim children, christians raise christians, everybody thinks everybody else is going to hell.
I'm sure that if there is a god he/she/it will be enlightened enough to realize that I'm a good egg that does more to help others than hurt, but I seriously doubt that there is a creator, its just too far fetched.

Right, the entire Muslim world all secretly conspired to destroy America. Kind of like how the entire Jewish world all secretly conspire to destroy Islam? When are you going to remember that all religions have fundamentalist zealots who murder so-called infidels? Since the birth of Christ, more people have died at the hands of extremist Christians than at those of any other religious group. Please try to keep your perspective at least in the general area of reality.

Rofl, gee, who does that sound like? Isn't that what Pat Robertson has in mind for the Jews in the Holy Land?
