Saw this as a letter to the editor in this month's outdoor life:
Gun-Toting Liberals
As a liberal hunter and gun-owning Democrat, I was happy to see the recent Snap Shots article acknowledging that I am not such an anomaly ["śThe Democratic Party Wants You,"ť February/March].
Most Democrats I know aren"™t interested in banning guns, only in "śreasonable"ť regulation. And the fact remains that most proposed gun regulation has virtually no impact on hunters.
Frankly, I"™m more worried about the government selling off the places where I camp, fish and hunt (or allowing industry to pollute those places with impunity) than I am about the government coming to get my guns.
Please continue to show that liberals and Democrats are not automatically enemies of gun owners and hunters.
Well Tim your attitude towards guns that aren't used for hunting may not make you an enemy of hunters, but it certainly makes you an enemy of mine when it comes to the meaning of the second amendment.[:@]

Re-read his third paragraph. I'm right there with him. I am no way a liberal.
If extreme righties have their way I probably won't be able to afford to hunt or buy guns, nor will the rest of the working class. I'll have to use all my money to send my kids to private schools as public education will be no more. Big buisness would love to have more control, make people work 80 hrs per week with no overtime, benefits, and for $.25 per day all to make more profit for themselves and to f**k the people that make them rich. That's why indochina is getting all of our work. Cheap labor = huge profits.

This is a great point!!! We need to make sure we are keeping ground for future generations. Guns yes, but, ground is the back door secret that is being taken from us.
I've been thinking more recently about getting some more ground to hunt. Even though I have an adequate amount already. This will ensure rights for future hunters.

Handles and Sunset: so you are willing to vote for and support a candidate who will gladly take a Right from you but will give you an entitlement or handout in its place?
I understand the anxiety over public land. I hunt and fish exclusively on public lands. I do not see them disappearing, in fact where I hunt, there is more land available than there was 5 years ago.

You are right, you are not a liberal. You sound more like a communist reading right from your little red book

So sorry that I believe in an honest day's pay for an honest day's work, and that a little should be taken from the top and given those who actually do the work. If that makes me a commie, well then I guess I am.
So what does that make you if you feel a business owner should be able to pay what he wants and make you work as much as he wants? Sounds like a Slave owner to me.
Handles- I'm joking with you- notice the winking smiley ()

Nope. If two employers want to hire me to dig ditches for them and one is hiring for $.50 per hour and the other is paying $12 per hour, is there any compelling reason why I have to work for the first? Lets say the market for ditch digging goes by the wayside and the second employer has to cut jobs and/or reduce pay to $.50 per hour to stay in business- are you compelled to accept that kind of pay or should you find a new industry to work in? Are you entitled to a job even if it become obsolete? Should we all demand protections of our jobs even if it doesn't make long term economic sense?
The correct aswers to all of the above questions is "no", otherwise we would still have large numbers of buggy whip makers around that are now earning $25 per hour.

Apparantly you don't know that the second ammendment has nothing to do with hunters.....it has little to do with self defense......
Briman,
Sometimes based on the job market, available transportation, location, etc. a person may be compelled/forced to take the .50 job. Their boss will be able to underbid other contractors, and get more jobs for .50 per hour.
Soon his competition will have to drop their wages to .50 to keep up. Now you have .50 per hour wages spreading around and people have no choice but to take that wage.
Thank God for the efforts of those generations before us that formed unions to end sweatshops and allow a living wage for people that want to work for it. Granted there is a little bit more job security in some unions than there should be, however overall the unions have done more to help than hurt.
