Lieberman said on the Fox News interview last night:
"This nation is almost evenly divided politically. And there are strategists in both parties who are urging both candidates to go for victory by whipping up into a frenzy the partisan, ideological base of both parties. I don't think that's a winning strategy, but I know it's the wrong strategy for America because it will divide us at exactly the time we need to be united to defeat terrorism, to get our economy going again, to deal with the health care crisis and the education crisis. "
I agree.
The prelude to the coming election is going to be particularly ugly. Both sides should heed Lieberman's advice.

If Leiberman really thinks that this country is evenly divided politically then he needs to quit sniffing his own farts . No wonder he lost the nomination , he's completely out of touch like all Dumbocrats .

I agree that there is a huge division in American politics and political beliefs about how to run the country. I think the polls and many statements about this subject are misleading in that there is a sizeable contingent of people who are undecided whether they be independent, democrat or republican and this group of "swing" voters that decides who gets elected.
Some of my peeves about this and any other election is the negative campaigning (mudslinging) that goes on and wins elections and the fact that most of this type of politicians do not articulate any plan as to how they will fix any particular problems. Too many Americans are so obsessed with the worry about electing the lesser of 2 evils candidate that they ignore, overlook or disscount which candidate actually has a better platform on how to improve things.

First, I do believe this country is polarized... man I thought we were on the verge of Civil War II last time. (But I think Bush ought to keep ripping Kerry.) The media is ripping Bush constantly. What else can he do?
Cal, I agree they don't talk issues... why? Because folks don't understand the issues.
This is what the masses care about... "What's in it for me?"
A selfish people...

Kevin1, I think it is a fair statement that we are "evenly divided." Polls seem to say so at least.
Lieberman displays concern for all Americans in such a statement...rare stuff these days.
The only polls that mean anything are exit polls ,
any others are premature at best before the election . It's only after folks have voted that you find out what side of the issues they're really on .
