More teens abusing inhalants

Also known as "huffing" or "sniffing," the abuse involves snorting or inhaling chemical vapors in common household products such as spray paint, glue or cleaning products to get high.

About 2.6 million 12- to 17-year-olds have used inhalants in the past, the National Survey on Drug Use and Health estimated, based on a 2002 questionnaire answered by more than 23,000 youths. Two years earlier, the numbers were half a million less.

In my opinion the world is overpopulated by humans and many of them are bored with life. Lets weed out the weak minded by letting them ruin themselves. I am licensed to teach Health and in no way would I say this in the classroom.

If you want to act like a Democrat, I suppose banning all household cleaners, spray paints and glue would be the ideal knee-jerk reaction.

Since we use those products very regularly, I'd say making it illegal to possess them would be a bit silly. Of course, we use guns regularly also and that doesn't stop them from trying to make gun ownership illegal.

The only thing we can do is try to educate kids, scare them into not doing it. I was never told about inhalants from an adult, just from 'friends'.
Adults/teachers/parents need to tell kids about the damage it does to your brain. Its impossible to put those kinds of chemicals out of the reach of those kids.
I knew a girl in middle school who huffed gas and hallucinated for hours, had a breakdown, and if anyone there was OLD ENOUGH TO DRIVE, they woudl have taken her to a hospitol. Its pretty serious business.
Whip-Its are becoming extraordinarily popular. You can buy a Whip-It cracker, and the aerosol containers, or whatever they are, commercially. Availability isn't the problem, its lack of knowledge.

The abuse of the substances is already illegal, like it makes a difference. You can pass all the laws you want, and some people are going to continue to do whatever they wish. It's just like passing gun control laws, the bad guys will ignore them while the honest peolpe are disarmed.
