This kind of thing really puts a strain on my ability to remain calm. These parents are fuming, as they should be:
Quote:
WILMINGTON, N.C. - The parents of a first-grader are fuming over the book their daughter brought home from the school library: a children"s story about a prince whose true love turns out to be another prince.
Quote:
The book ends with the princes marrying and sharing a kiss.
"What might be inappropriate for one family, in another family is a totally acceptable thing," said Elizabeth Miars, Freeman"s principal.

Enough is enough don't you think? Why would this kind of crap be in a public school? Are we really that weak as a nation that this crap should be allowed all in the name of diversity and being PC? I personally hope they pull the book from the shelf.

Jesus H. Christ. Of all the things I've ever read, this has to be the most screwed up of them all.
Yeah these *****s piss me off too, teaching and spreading their ungodly ways(as they spread their ungodly asscheeks), and now, a public library has to go and help them along one inch further(an inch of the cock n balls into the rectum of society).
If I was a parent, I'd be fuming too. Cotton-pickin' liberals, diversity this, diversity that, screw all that stuff about loving who you want, and whenever you want it. This country isn't about personal freedom, the rights of individuals to choose, no, judas priest that, it's about a select few white rich men deciding what's Right and what's Good, and everyone else following suit. That!, is the American way, the American truth, the American example that we should all follow. Namely, whatever some other rich white guy tells us to do and think. Amen! I will be the first to bow down before this thoughtless patriarchy, to give up my mind and free will, so long as in the end I am confident that I will be among the majority in doing what is accepted as Good and Right. That's what really matters. That's what really counts when we're all on our deathbeds, reviewing the events of our life with some measure of regret. At least we'll all be able to say "I lived rightly by the mindless masses, I lived rightly by those few entitled rich guys. Thank God. Amen, now I can die in peace."
Whatever though, yer right trophyhuntr, the gays and liberal democrats are here to stay Unfortunately. Until we can tweak a few government loopholes like this gay marriage thing(shoot, what are they thinking, they can love and marry whomever they choose? this isn't a free and independent democracy!, you do whatever the righteous government tells you!), if we make it most uncomfortable for them to live here then soon we'll be able to smoke these scum out of the country. We'll give 'em a little kick on the arse too when we do, they can follow the blacks(scuse me Africans, yeah right, like all life originated in Africa or something) and Jews, right on out, keeping this country pure and Christian and white, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be. Amen.
Mike from Texas, I totally agree. It's so sad, the state of affairs in our public schools. They should be teaching our kids that's it's both OK to read & speak about God, in addition to the fact that it's OK to be a homo. Can't have one without the other really. I mean, once you boil it all down, what is the love of God or Christ, but the love of a man for another man? Assuming that we the readers are men(which is only natural since women don't think and aren't important anyway), this can only mean that we here are all men and that men love other men. Um....waitaminute...I didn't mean to say that. No, this isn't what I meant to say. Hmm...gimme a sec. Ok, no, Christ is Love, I love God, and I love Christ, but they aren't men, they aren't really masculine, because in this world of God-love we've de-genderized everybody, made them superhuman and unsexless, because sex is bad anyways, wantonly being lustful and enjoying sex is positively UnChristian, so loving God and Christ is damned straight and undeniably heterosexual. Whew. Ok, now I feel better, everything's back in the straight and narrow, black and white, a place for everything and everything in its place.
Wow, just noticed this line of convo in the forums is quite dry, I dearly hope I haven't wasted my efforts here in sharing my thoughts, alas, to have fallen upon deaf ears would be the end to my confidence, to my conviction that all is not lost in this world, my faith in humanity would only be restored if there was some use to this ranting and raving we call life on the web. It is my fondest wish to inspire comraderie in my fellow man, to bring forth englightenment in the form of a brightening conversation, opening up new avenues of empathy and lines of communication, to bring us all closer to understanding one another.
Alas, one can never know until one posts. Fare thee well kind gentlemen, may you never hunger nor thirst.
Seeds, you may want to take a look at the forum posting rules. I have a feeling you are on the ragged edge if not falling over the line. I think maybe you should watch your language a bit.
I can't make out from your rant as to whether you agree or disagree with the homosexual lifestyle, could you please clarify so I know where you stand and maybe we can discuss this further.
While I'm often at odds with some of you with regards to gay rights issues, I agree that this is very disturbing. When I speak of gay rights, I'm referring to adults. A book like this shouldn't be in any public school library, let alone one in an elementary school! There isn't any reason for a child to be introduced to these concepts. Once a person has reached adulthood, then we assume (hopefully) that he/she is responsible enough to make his/her own decisions.
On a side note, does anyone know of an authentic historical account of two homosexual kings reigning together at any time anywhere?
Mike from Texas, terribly sorry, in the future I will endeavour to stay much closer to the level of the accepted standards and practices that this online community upholds.
Strange, whether or not I am for or against the homosexual lifestyle(ohhhhh, buzz word) doesn't seem to affect the tide of any discussion. However, if you are making a subtle pass at me, this is another matter entirely, and we can speak about it privately if you wish.
One thing I am For, though, is the government staying out of people's lives, telling them how they should live. Who are they? Politicians? Elected or bought their way in, they are merely suits and should stay as far away from having a stance on what people Should or Shouldn't be doing in their freetime. The nerve of some people.[:'(]
Strange though that one would want to Agree or Disagree with another's chosen lifestyle. Don't our own lives contain enough myriad troubles and complications without us having to worry about agreeing with what everyeone else is doing as well? That sounds like a lot of work, and I'm a minimalist at heart, so, I think I shall pass on worrying what the rest of my fellow countrymen and women are doing, and live my own life my own way. Hm. Strange.
Aught Six, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. Are you saying that "homosexuality" should be a forbidden subject until kids reach adulthood? Seems kinda foreign to me, since many of the children today in schools are gay and out themselves, how do you think it would make them feel to have their library tell them that their sexual preference is a forbidden subject, and that all books that may indirectly pertain to it will be removed from the library, whereas all of the other straight stories of princes kissing princesses are allowed to remain? Fiction is important, we can learn a bit about human relations, social interactions. It's more difficult when the people in the story we're reading about are less like us then they are like other people. A gay child will learn less I think from reading fiction with all straight characters than from reading a book with a more diverse selection of characters.
Can you imagine a lone straight kid in a library full of strictly gay fiction? Don't get me wrong, it might do them some good, but they will have to travel a mile farther in the realms of imagination. A variety of fiction is the best bet for kids, gay or straight. It's more balanced, without any one-sided bias like removing certain "forbidden" subjects.
Imagine that, a sexuality preference being an adult subject. If they don't learn about it in school, what else do we leave kids to learn from besides the internet and porn? Most parents are too modern or afraid to discuss it with their kids, and when they do it's usually already a few years late, little Katie or little Brad have already gone all the way and had sex.
I say use the control you have in schools, put Quality books on the shelves of all subjects and origins, that way at least you have a measure of effect on what they're reading, can influence them to grow boundlessly.
Aught Six, one last thing : your question as to whether there are or have ever been two homosexual kings "reigning together" at any time... ...are you just curious as to if this mentioned taboo book had a historical root, or..., well, or what? Why, I ask you, what are you trying to get at? Because I had an inkling that you might be trying to suggest that there have never been gay kings or some such nonsense, going along with a commonly held belief that "homosexuality" is quite new to history when in fact since the dawn of time I'm afraid folks have been having feelings toward their same-gender friends.
When Bubba the Big Cavemen first got scared and clubbed TinkerBell on the head when he held his hand, homosexuals were forced into hiding with the threat of physical dominance(ironic, if you twist you sense of humour a touch salaciously, isn't it?), and have been hiding ever since. Thousands of years, I promise you. Thousands of years of fear, leading painfully split or repressed lives, hiding from ignorant beligerent bullies who themselves often carried...
