Terrorist win a big battle

Well al Qaida has won a big battle this weekend. By taking credit for the bombing of the trians last week in Madrid they have swung a tight election to the socialist party. The first thing out of the socialist mouth is, I pledge to withdraw our troops from Iraq. Comments from the Spanish citizens were not just "assassin", a slur at the terorist, but anti American and Bush complaints because of our military actions in the middle east. By being our allies America brought this to our doors.

Now it remains to be seen if it was actually al Qaida that was totally responsible for the bombings or was it a well calculated move by the long struggling Basque separtist group ETA. Even worst a coordinated effort. It is foolish to believe that withdrawing troops from Iraq will deter terrorist, it will only strength their resolve. Spain may find some temporary relief but they will only instill the thought that this works in the minds of the actors.

Sounds alot light john kerry wanting to talk this out and rethink our foreign policies in the middle east as a solution to terrorism.

It may have worked for the terrorist in the short run. And as you said, "it may garner the Spanish" a reprieve of sorts. But it will be visited back upon their door step far more harshly down the road! Every lesson of history has shown us repeatedly that appeasement brings only more demands upon those that acquiesce. That will be the terrorists focus over the next few months especially here in the US with elections in the fall. They know our media controls what people hear and they will work to side with the left wing media to make people think as the Spaniards are.
I agree with AK - in the long run it will not pay off for them. For years Italy was a very fickle society and probably still are in many ways. At the drop of a hat they would switch sides.

Kenton6, the media only controls what the lazy indifferent people hear and read. Anyone willing, interested and intelligent enough to care will look to a variety of news sources for the news and complete facts of the day.
Look how little about his bombing in Madrid Spain has been disucussed here this past week. Not everyone consider it important or having impact. Well, look how wrong they are or were.
If people don't think what happened in Spain is not going to have serious impact on the USA they have their head in the sand.

I've been watching this "play out" on the news for the last few days. The results of the election says alot about the "nature" of the Spanish citezen.

It's like the whole country just said; "OK, you just kicked us in the teeth...If we promise to go sit in the corner and shut up,,,will you leave us alone?"
